If they haven't got undersoil heating it may depend on how cold they think it'll get tonight - forecast for Crewe is max of 4C today then going down to 1C by 19:00 and then 0C at 22:00.

Due to a drop in temperature over the few days, Crewe Alexandra has requested a pitch inspection ahead of this evening’s home match with Sheffield United.

The club will be asking for a local referee to inspect the pitch at midday before deciding if match referee Oliver Langford will make the final call

The drive over there might be fun... Snake or the Cat and Fiddle. Hmmmmm!

It's a worry that the club have requested it IMO.

Can't see it going ahead

Better to have the game off than risk an injury to a key player from a hard pitch.

well done for calling it off so early as well.

Works for me. That suet pudding of a surface on Saturday will have taken a lot out of the legs and I'd rather we were playing three games a week in a months time when the pitches will be better.

But if we're 4th come half 9 tonight and 6 points behind Donny, that's a lot of extra pressure.

The only obvious date we can both make now is Tuesday April 23 - not ideal finishing the season with 3 games in 8 days (5 in 15 days). And after a long trip to Portsmouth.

This game may decide our fate now .....................

Yes, I noticed that plus they definitely have nothing to play for. It's just the strain of 5 games in 15 days for our squad that could trip us up

Crewe are at Wembley on the 7th

Perhaps more importantly, they are at home to Brentford on the 10th...

Chuff me, I don`t fancy that run-in, 5 of the top-6 on the bounce. Crewe the team that decides who goes up.

Given the cold weather is here for a bit, we need to get the game re-arranged for the Tuesday the 23rd, then any other re-arrangements would have to go on Thursday 25th.

Unless we fancy Tuesday 26th March...

Mind you, didn't we stitch Chesterfield up last season by making them play just after the JPT final?

Hardly just after, it was the Wednesday I beleive (just another of our games last season where we played after the unclean)

Only can really be Tues/Weds midweek; 23rd or 24th April...meaning 4 games in 11 days to end the season for us...

Unless they shoehorn it into March 26th (fortnight tonight) between Saturday and Good Friday - but short notice for policing etc

I am thinking near end of season whislt a lot of games; Crewe will be even less bothered and hopefully with a big following, midweek before final game this might work in our favour.

Still there is a chance we could drop to 4th tonight and thus lose initiative and put pressure on us as Stevenage

I think it's an advantage knowing what result you need as it allows you to tweak tactics accordingly.
This postponement could give us a vital edge in the final week.

They moaned like mad about though as they didn't want to play it that week.

If it's April 23rd, tickets could be like gold dust. I'm assuming we'd sold the majority of our allocation for tonight so we might only have a couple of hundred left for a potentially huge game (obviously there will be 1,300 or so of us with a ticket already in our pocket).
