Well it seems a lot longer than a week since we last played and I guess that's down to the anticipation for each match, unlike the dread of recent seasons. And we make the trip to Walsall in search of a seventh straight win. Walsall themselves have just 1 win in their last 10, but have already beaten us twice at BDBL this season. In other words, football is a funny old game, and we already know not to take any result for granted. But let's say this 'should' be an easier task than last weeks match, and that went well enough. It'll be tactics as much as anything that will win or lose this game, and it's likely Walsall will line up defensively by all accounts. Apparently that doesn't play to their strengths! Although Walsall are not in any immediate danger, and have 2 games in hand on many of the teams around them, they do need to chalk up some points to avoid slipping into a relegation scrap. This will not be an easy game this afternoon.....

Anyway...

Any team news? :)

Carruthers out for up to 4 weeks :(

Clarke back in contention.

But continue with an unchanged starting line up?

Games cannot come quick enough at the moment... A mood that can quickly swing when/if we hit a patch of poor form, but for now let's ride the wave which is being created through graft, commitment and the confidence which is oozing at the moment. Safe journey lads and lasses and I hope you bring us the three points back to Sheffield. 3-1 Blades win, Lavery with 2 :) ;)

Really looking forward to the match just down the road for me.Bringing my son in law who I am converting to a blade.Got a feeling this could be a 4-1 win for us.Just hope we start well and continue the high energy style of football.Safe journey everyone.

We've laid to rest a few bogeys this season, time to put another to bed.

Same starting line up foe me, Lavery is starting to come into his own I reckon and gives us pace and goal threat up front along side Sharp.

Great seeing the Wilder/Knill template against the "lesser" sides being just the same as against the top sides in the division - defend high up the pitch, apply pressure, dig in, be intense.

For all the talking about "giving respect to the opposition" over the last few years, nowadays we actually do it, but for a purpose (not because it's "respectful" or it's the "right thing to do"). It's what's bringing us success.

Fantastic to go into games these days actually feeling confident.

I'll take a scruffy 1-0 win today, no fancy stuff , just get the job done.

Why? What a curious thing to say. Do you not like good football? Because, in fact, that is exactly what is "getting the job done". It's not "either/or". Quite the contrary. It's cause and effect.

Interesting to note the repeated references in this thread to "high energy", "commitment", "grafting". Has no one noticed the excellent passing and intelligent movement? Or do we find that a bit non-S2 and would prefer it wasn't happening?

Only in....

For those interested in these things, we will be playing in last season's away kit today, to prevent us clashing with Walsall's kit. Hopefully we won't be playing like we did last season.

I will be amazed if we don't beat these today. Wilder and the team have had a long time to stew over the last game. I don't see a repeat result.

In the Walsall matchday programme it has reprinted a copy of the 1980 programme between us. Apparently it as our first league match against them for 87 years. We have now been in the same league as them for six seasons. Hopefully it will be a while before we play them again!

Ive got an original of that 1980 programme at home somewhere. Still rankles with me somehow how we scored a last minute winner to 4-3 up (Hatton)...only to allow them to straight down the pitch to score with the last kick of the match. Blimey we only had to keep a clean sheet for 20 seconds and still couldnt manage it - boy that 1980 side was shit.

Of course it came back to bite us on he arse again Blades style by Walsall sending us down and saving themselves. They probably deserved to stay up at our expense anyway as they went 1 up at our place with a full 5 mins to go...and they held out (just) with the help of Givens and Martin fkin Peters (dropping Kenworthy).

Ive always disliked the bstards since and will love it if we stuff em today. About time we put the record straight from earlier this season also.

Something in my water suggests there is going to be a big incident or controversy today.

And I don't think it's going to be negative for us. Weird statement I know. I'll go take a piss to clear this water. It seems to revolve around a number of red cards. Bloody drunk already I guess. UTB

Signs permanently, gets injured.

Taking liberties.

Gerimaht.

Good to see Lafferty keeping to the Blades tradition that a new signing must get injured after they sign.
