Wise words from Ian Holloway. I’ve always liked him:-

Speaking to the QPR website, Holloway said: “I’m really pleased for Chris with what he’s done with Sheffield United this season.

“He’s fantastic fella and he’s always done very well wherever he’s been. Now he’s doing it at the club he loves, which is brilliant to see.

“They’ve been a breath of fresh air to this division. The way they play is very difficult to play against.

“They’re very bold, like to be very dominant, and they’re adventurous with the way they utilise their right and left-sided centre-backs. ETC

I'm usually a bit critical of Holloway's analysis whenever he's been a pundit on Sky, however to be fair he must be the first 'expert' to note that we use our centre halfs as an attacking threat.

Isn’t Leonard that?

Nah, he doesn't carry/keep the ball like Fleck. Neither does any other option we have other than Carruthers - who lacks in other areas.

Need to sign a midfielder in the summer who can get box to box but has quality on the ball. Left footed if possible. John McGinn would be perfect, but pricey.

Are you basing that on what you’ve seen of him with us, or what you know of him at Southend?

I thought he was in the Fleck mould, but I haven’t followed him that closely.

Great fella is Olly, met him on a few occasions as my wife used to teach his two daughters. The school had a sports a sports day and Olly got some of his players to turn up along with Mitchell Thomas and Ian Wright. Did a coaching session followed by a game which I got to play in.

I thought he was in the Fleck mould, but I haven’t followed him that closely.

Both, mainly what I've seen with us. Technically, he's not at Fleck's level. Good athlete, hardworking and not bad on the ball but doesn't have the extra bit Fleck has to drive forward and create. For now I think he'll be a (very good) utility player.

The way I see it we've got 3 in a similar mould with Coutts, Evans and Lundstram. Then there's Fleck.

My suggestion would be to trade Lundstram for a more dynamic type to compete with Fleck.

Don't get the confusion people have with our formation.
Holmes, Carruthers and Duffy are attacking midfielders that play behind two strikers.
Fleck, Lundstram, Leonard and Evans are deeper lying midfielders that play in the two behind the attacking midfielder.

I think that the system is a bit more subtle than that, for two reasons:

(i) Just because we mostly tend to play one 'link' player behind the front two and another two deeper midfielders, those positions aren't literally 'fixed' in place, and we have opportunities to mix it around a bit. For example, in an away game against a strong team, it might be beneficial to play someone like Lundstram in the more attacking role (as well as, say Fleck and Evans in the other two). This would ensure that there is a more solid mentality in the shape, and the natural defensive tendencies would mean that we're less likely to have someone forget to track back when we're hit on the break. Conversely, picking Carruthers as a defensive midfielder might work in a home game where we're likely to have a lot of the ball and might be up against a team with ten men behind the ball. It's not necessarily changing the shape, just changing the natural tendencies within the individuals in each role.

(ii) Even within one position (e.g. defensive midfielder), there are a lot of sub-types. For example, some defensive midfielders are much more set up to provide natural cover for the full backs (and RCB/LCB) when they push forward. I think this is usually Fleck's job, but I'm not 100% convinced that he does it properly. The best player I've seen for us in that aspect of the role was Nick Montgomery, though he other weaknesses, of course. Other defensive midfielders are there to win 50-50s and sweep up or recycle loose balls. Again, for different games, I think the different players will bring something useful.

According to the Beeb this is the first league meeting at Bramall Lane since August 2010 - QPR won 3-0 with goals from Hogan Ephraim, Jamie Mackie and Adel Taarabt.

Blades manager Kevin Blackwell was then sacked, after what, three games into the season?

Could really use a win tonight and try and get a run going. Difficult selection choices upfront. I assume as you were if Leon is fit.

It’s a big game for whoever replaces Fleck be it Lundstrum or Leonard.

Lundstrum has been usurped in the Coutts replacement role by Evans so needs to show he can stand in for the Fleck role, the last time he did this was at QPR and it didn’t go well.

Leonard has yet to make any impression on his appearance so if he gets the nod he will need to get involved in influencing the game.

I think CW will plump for Lundstrum.

Likely to be 3-5-2 v 3-5-2, and without Fleck, I expect a tight game.

Leonard in for Fleck, and Donaldson for Clark if not fit. Otherwise, same XI as faced Leeds with Brooks to make a cameo from the bench.

I reckon it'll be same team that beat Leeds, with Lunny getting the nod in place of Fleck.

First goal crucial tonight, as it was in the first game, if they score first they'll park the bus and try and break our game like the first game and has many more inferior teams coming to the Lane have done, we need to be at it from the start and try and hammer them with an early goal to open them up. .

Travelled up from London with the QPR team yesterday, was amazed at how young they all look, close up. If I see David Brooks close up, I will probably ask him if he has been accidentally separated from his parents.

Holmes not involved due to a back issue, and Wilson is out with an ankle complaint from Friday. Lundstram given the nod in place of the suspended Fleck.

Must win tonight at all costs

It would be a "must win" if we were 5 points off 6th spot with a game in hand on 6th. I'd call this a game when a win would be very welcome, but 4 points tonight and Friday wouldn't end our season

Start of big period of 7 games. We should be looking to win 6 of them. Bar fulham. We got 15th 18th 21st 24th & 12th based on current table

#PleasenotLundstram. Oh well GLTTL have a 'gud un' and prove me wrong. Following a minor op today I won't be there to moan at you so that should help, and my recovery will suffer if I have to watch or listen.

about our strongest available starting XI with Brooks still easing back from illness
hope Clarke rediscovers his mojo tonight

You’re not the only one, that’s how I also saw it. No issue at all with him starting this evening.

Quite a few have said that Leonard has being poor so it seems logical to give him longer to adjust and go with Lundstram.
