Just got this direct from a club employee, "if it doesn't stop raining almost imediately and then stay dry all night the game will be off, the pitch is already flooded"

Feckin Marvelous

It's certainly been a bit Biblical this afternoon. The only reason I thought we might be on is that the pitch is all new and not cut up.

Official SUFC have just posted that the pitch is fine.

Rain is due to clear from 10pm and tomorrow is forecast to be dry and sunny.

Were it February and we'd had all this rain, I'd be worried. But we've just come off the back of six weeks of mostly glorious weather. The pitch should be absorbing this lot like a sponge, and will probably play better tomorrow because of it.

It'll certainly save the groundsmen from giving it such a good soaking tomorrow.

Another club employee has just texted me this - 'If a UFO lands on the pitch tonight and aliens come out and start harvesting humans and zapping everything in sight with ray guns, the game will be off..', which I think is slightly more believable than your info.. :)

Just repeating what I have been told, maybe I Have been wound up, still coming down heavy though

He's definitely winding you up, john Bon. As if you'd need any confirmation that a UFO would land tonight?

:D

It's beautiful weather here. Maybe you all ought to fly out here, we'll have a match in Vienna instead.

It would be ironic that after starting the season in the middle of summer, so that some of us have only a passing interest until the cricket season finishes, the game was rained off

Why do people post this crap? There's just been someone quoting James Shield saying it's in doubt on BM, Twitter and Facebook and it was a bogus account. I smell pork!

It's going to dry out this evening and the forecast is wall to wall sunshine from dawn. If the ground staff can't get it right after the improvements at this time of year even after a deluge there'd be something seriously wrong... It's not the Sty.

reminds me of the time that the scriptwriter of that classic film Goodnight Vienna went along to the picture palace in Rotherham to see his masterpiece being shown.

On arriving late and asking the girl on the door how the film was going down, she says:

"Well, it's going down about as well as Goodnight Rotherham would in Vienna."

In my day we'd have just played on. Took more than that to stop a game.

In my day it enabled you to execute the perfect sliding tackle from thirty yards away.

Memories Tarquin, memories. Then having to wipe the dog shit off yer legs?.

One game I played in, it was so wet on pitch 18 at Concord Park that our centre half did a sliding tackle and finished up on Woolley Wood bottom. Honest.

Weren't you scared? Didn't people think the Earth was flat back then? :)

Useless fact of the day ,if you stand on pitch 2 (I think or 3) in Concord park and look East you have no land of the same height to block your vision until you get to Russia. Must be a clear day obviously.

Its true ,I heard one of those boring twats they have on Roney Robinson say so. :)
