I watched the Derby/Chelsea game earlier and was impressed by Mason Bennett who was very fast, direct and drifted deep/wide to get possession. It seems he plays the odd few minutes for Derby in the league off the bench and they have agreed a deal to sign Patrick Bamford so perhaps it will give us a chance to nab him on loan?

Mason is looking for a loan away from Derby next season if Derby get promoted with the number of senior strikers they have. Could be a good young signing with ridiculous pace and strength for Baxter to play off?

Isn't he presently on loan at Chesterfield? Does anyone know how he's doing?
He was during April, now back at Derby playing in the reserves and sporadic appearances on the bench for the first team, although his first team appearances have dropped since Nigel left... Only problem would be that Nigel doesn't like playing him on midweek matches as he has school in the morning!

Andy Giddings: So #sufc expected to complete a double signing from #dcfc soon. A permanent transfer for Keiron Freeman and 6-month loan for Mason Bennett.

Hope this Bennett lad works out...Clough should know him well enough and we could use a bit more pace in attack!
Happy about the Freeman deal also.

Good stuff Clough!

And that ladies is as good as it gets, Freeman permament deal and a young kid up front to tide us over till you know who returns. Same old United always do it cheap.

Clough said he was looking to bid for 'one or two' strikers this week so I think that Bennett's signing won't be the last in the striking department. Not with the HM money coming in.

I for one think this will be it now until the end of August when we are 5 or 6 games in and realise what we have is not enough. After three 0-0 draws and a 1-0 win scored by OG plus a cup win on pens, Clough might just think we need a bit more up top. However when the board tell him that he can't use the extra FA cup money or money from Maguire because we spent to much on the new ticket office he will been made to wait for a certain player to be released and gets fit.

I think you should keep your powder dry until the season starts. But if you're right, I'll light it for you.

;)

Two Chesterfield fans at work said Bennett is strong and quick but didnt really stand out in his loan spell to them last February. They say he has a lot to learn. Clough knows him better than Paul Cook.

Hope he doesn't attempt any more overhead kicks then.

Seriously though I'm quite optimistic about this signing, maybe Clough can get the best out of him and we'll have a rising star in the side.

One of these days we'll sign a striker on loan who scores bags and bags of goals and Jonathan Forte, Will Hoskins, Craig Beattie, Marcus Bent, Billy Painter et al can be forgotten.

Not saying it will be Mason but one day Rodney, one day.

I think Freeman coming signals the end of a Brayford transfer for a while ( at least until Cardiff decide they don't want him). Evans returning looking more and more on the cards. Can't see a permanent striker being signed before Aug 9th - maybe another loanee striker if we get off to a sticky start. Wallace seeming to be a bit of a "sick note", much rather have had Coady. United as ever - short arms and long pockets.

Don't get me wrong Brayford is a cracking player and I would love to have him back at the lane but if we don't get him I don't think it is the be all and end all. With Alcock and Freeman and stuff I think we have plenty of decent alternatives. I have to admit that I know absolutely naff all about this Mason Bennett lad but the video of him doesn't look too bad. Makes me wonder whether Clough has brough him in with the view to filling the bench and playing some cameo roles for now until he proves himself. I don't see Clough bringing him in as a first choice.

John Cofie redux.

Jesus wept. I hope this isn't our big idea to get 25 more goals...

Matt Phillips perhaps?

Seen Bennett several times. A ball winner, menace and pacy. If NC can get the best out of him, he will be a fan favourite in no time.

Now that Derby have acquired Leon Best, what is the bet they are ready to negotiate a deal for Mason now? Wouldn't be surprised to see them come backwwilling to deal without Freeman as part of the pakage. Mac is not as fool, he knows that Mason would be in good hands with NC.
