Martyn Waghorn

Boy, I say boy, y'know this lad could do a job for us. I say this lad could do a fine job for us. I say we're crying out for some loud mouth, big shot in the middle of the park and this boy makes more noise than a couple of skeletons throwing a fit on a tin roof. Get him in instead of Doyle. That boy, I say that boy is so dumb, you put his brain on the sharp edge of a razor blade, it would look like a marble rolling down a 4 lane highway....

Yeah could do well for us at this level.

Mmm wonder if we can snatch Conor Wickham at the end of January. :)

Sheffield United are thought to be closing in on Wigan forward Martyn Waghorn.

The former Leicester man has scored eight goals last year for the Latics, but with Wigan splashing the cash to try and get back into the second tier, Waghorn may become available.

Waghorn’s record is far from prolific, having around a one in five record over his career, though he has never had a spell in League One.

I wouldn't trust the source at all, but on the subject I think he could do a tremendous job in L1, Wigan would be bonkers to let him go imo

we can only hope it's a straight in, and not a swap for Done.

I agree. It's only a rumour though so let's see it for what it is. I do think, however, that NA has to be given a huge amount of latitude to make the changes HE thinks are necessary. His record suggests he'll get it right. I, for one, would have Billy Blade very low on my "wanted list" but NA disagrees and I'm going to back his judgement and not make my usual fuss....:)

I dare say they think they've seen him play often enough to make a judgement...

What do you find so compelling about his 35 career goals in 8 years as a pro?

I think your right, they have seen enough in the Championship.

And i'm also not saying he'd spark straight away, or even at all. I just think from what I have seen of him (a handful of Leicester games a couple of years ago) he could do a job at this level and I would be willing to take that risk if i was in a position at Wigan to do so, letting him go could be a mistake.

Do you remember a certain Mr. Evans who struggled in the Championship but not so much after dropping down a level.

I think Wigan have probably realised they are in Division three now.

On the Evans logic, we could sign any old Championship failure. Why this one? I don't think there has ever been a player, anywhere, anytime, that has become available without someone wanting to bringimin to "do a job..."

I agree, and i think your missing my original point. I never suggested he come to us, just that I feel Wigan would be silly to let him go to a rival.

Leaving Rangers...

Can't see it myself, but....

He has the same agent as DCL, who's "rumoured" to be off to Everton.

Not putting 2+2 together, but...

I can't see it happening, doesn't fit the target man role.

Lots of player ins/outs at Ibrox before season kicks off for them.

Have Rangers released him?

Rejected a contract offer.

But he's seemingly under a longer-term contract to begin with. - Presumably he's been offered improved terms after their promotion, hence the new offer?

It seems he's unhappy because new players are being brought in on better terms that he's got (& his agent has "alerted English clubs to his contract difficulties"). With that in mind, & bearing in mind our own history of problems with money-grabbing bastards, he's probably best avoided like the plague.

I don't think it matters, he isn't going to come to League 1.

Him, Tavernier have rejected new contract offers.
Then again, there's nothing new on the table for Warburton.

The signing of Joey Barton may prove to be less beneficial than expected if current players
demand an increase on their current deal and/or demand similar wages to him.
