I can imagine another right back is huge priority unless he can play right centre back. Curtains for Leonard?

worth noting that he had been training in pre season at WBA, who themselves we're keen on bringing him in but they needed to get players off their books before doing so.

Yeah but if he's a free transfer he must be shit. It's the S2 way.

All the people on here that AREN'T paid to be scouts, clearly know better.

Sell Leonard for a fee he'll probably be worth more than in January and sign a 32 year old defender who can't play in midfield to replace him.

Excellent.

Cranie's a steady player who fits in well at RCB but he shouldn't have been necessary.

Alternatively, double money in 7 months on a substitute and replace with free transfer with loads of Championship experience.

It's the way you look at it.

I see this (if it happens) as Bash covering for Leonard if we're light in midfield, and Crainie covering defence.

Fair point I think bash is at least of the same standard as Leonard in midfielder

Leonard just wasn’t good enough technically for the type of football we want to play.

I disagree. Don't think that was the case with Leonard. I don't think he ever got a fair run of games to show us why Wilder chased him for so long. I think the main factors for moving him on was -

1. Bad signing in first place, he signed Lundstram as plan B instead of RL but then signed him anyway.

2. Economics. My guess is we would have preferred to keep him but it was either that or miss out on Washington.

3. The availability of Norwood being too good an opportunity to miss, signing someone of that calibre with our budget.

4. Return of Coutts.

He obviously hasn't signed, it would've been announced by now.
He's a free agent so no rush to sign.
Experienced player so good signing.
Leonard was mainly used as defensive cover so he is cover across the back line.
Been a good window and Wilder will I think have some budget left for January window.

Wondering if the original source got us confused with the pigs they've been linked with multiple defenders for weeks. Maybe they said united instead of Wednesday

He could sign anytime, as said above he is a free agent now so the window deadline does not apply. Peter O'Rourke was also clear that we were in discussions with him, and bar the occasional/rare balls up, he doesn't normally tweet unless it is true.
