Might pop down tomorrow to Mansfield but I don't have good memories of Field Mill, I recall a FA Cup match when we were the real thing, possibly 1972, when we were unexpectedly beaten there. Then maybe 1978, one of Sabella's and Len De Goey's first games - we were crap. And then the worst weather I can remember an game under Bassett when Webster broke his leg. I seenm to think we came back from 1-0 down to draw - is that correct?

Under Bassett we won 1-0 with a pen. I think Bob Booker was tripped for the pen and the goal was scored in front of the blades fans as the snow poured down and it was fucking freezing as well. Deffo the worst match for weather conditions affecting fans in my time and there have a fair few bad'uns.

Yep, we had a cup game there and as you say, 1 - 0 down, Webster broke his leg, and equalised for a replay.

I think Kenworthy scored an O.G. and we won the replay 1 - 0 at the Lane

The first game was Round 3 1968. John Tudor scored but we got turned over 2-1. First time I'd ever seen us beaten by a lower league team.

I remember Len De Goey scoring at Mansfield, I thought we won 4-3 with a huge deflection from a Paul Garner free kick.

The "worst ever weather" was APRIL (yes APRIL) 1989 and was the day Bob Booker became a cult figure.

I also remember drawing 1-1 in the Div 4 season when Colin Morris played one of his first games (we missed a penalty if I remember right).

Migt be a last chance , Mansfield won't exist in 2 years time. The club ,not the place - shame.

It was in 1969 when we lost 2-1 at Mansfield in the FA Cup 3rd round. We had a good cup run in 1968 beating Watford, Blackpool and West Ham before losing to L**ds in the quarters

Deane equalised Kevin Kent's opener before Webbo broke his leg. We won the replay by 2-1, Bryson and Kenworthy o.g. were our scorers

Hmmm...not sure which of these games I remember, but it was my only visit to Field Mill and perhaps the game which instilled the Blades camaraderie most firmly within me.

I was about 12. It was an evening game and we drove down from Sheffield after my dad finished work. It was chucking it down with rain all the way, and a few miles from the ground, the car broke down. We both got soaked to the skin fixing it (well, my Dad fixed it, and I watched) and we got to the ground just in time.

We bought a programme (My dad always got a programme, home or away. This was before the days when the internet told you everything you needed to know for free, but he still does it) and I still have it somewhere - it got soaked and torn, the pages stuck together and almost illegible, but I kept it for the memories. Into the ground, and it was a low open terrace at one end, packed with Blades. The rain was relentless the whole night, and the match was pretty awful (might have been a 1-1 draw - not sure) but I'll never forget it for the Blades fans never stopping singing from the first minute on, and everyone 'bouncing' for the whole game (long before Wednesday fans took it up) if only to keep warm.
