Makems in the railway

When we played the Mackems many years ago at the lane we drove to the match with a red and white scarf in the back widow of the car and a car full of them started following us presumably thinking we were going straight to the ground. Was funny when we parked up in a rough part of outer Sheff to pick up a mate with them right behind with puzzled looks on their faces no doubt wondering what to do next. They drove off before we could stop laughing and help them, usually a good bunch though.

The first time we went to a game at Forest we followed a car with a Forest sticker. Ended up at a bloody nature reserve.

I've never known Mackems to give any bother. Decent set of fans.
Me and my mate had met some mackems in Tenerife the summer before the Borbokis game in 97.

We invited them down to the Borbokis game at the lane and then we went up to the Stadium of Light later that season

We both had our shirts on and the Sunderland fans welcomed us, buying us beers all day and night. We got beat but they were super friendly.

Even the lasses put out.

More than one Sunlan fan said to us that they regarded us as the closest club to them ,in kit ,having wank neighbours ,good support and under achievement. A few actually said we are the least disliked club in football to them.

I thought they were a decent bunch yesterday, I actually felt sorry for them when the "going down, going down, going down" chant started. I know it's just football banter, but even so. It was a good laugh when they started singing "you're nothing special, we are just shit", or whatever it was.

Decent bunch.

I mentioned that and the guy said ,weve had going down, going down every game for 6 years in a row now ,we would miss it :)

I remember them singing You're shit and you know you are when they were 4-0 up at the lane after about 20mins. At that time I think we had Bruce as manager and the likes of Twiss, Notman and maybe Jonathan feckin Hunt in the side we were as shit that day as they were yesterday. Their fans really are suffering just now.

I didn’t have or have ever had any beef with the Sunderland fans.

Me and the lad had an awesome trip up there in September was they were a friendly welcoming bunch, and I’ve heard nothing but good reports about them yesterday at the Lane. I’d welcome any away fan in any other pubs near Bramall Lane as long as they aren’t complete knobs.

I can quite easily imagine the next couple of fixtures where the atmosphere isn’t anywhere near as good.

Alas, we had Bruce on the pitch, a sorry sight to see. Bit like watching O'Shea being outpaced by Leon yesterday.

I take it none of you were at the cup game against them at the stadium of light in 2004?

I have never seen as much trouble at a football match, the coach park was a war zone.

Awful.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about that. One of the few times I've found myself right in the middle of it, meaning I couldn't do my usual trick of walking very swiftly away from the trouble. On this occasion I nipped back into the stadium and hid. It really was unpleasant though.

My earliest cup final memory was watching the Leeds v Sunderland FA Cup final in 1973.

I was very young and remember thinking “why are Sunderland wearing our kit”.
I even wondered whether it was really SU in the final and I was looking to see if Tony Currie was playing.

Remember the commentators raving about Leeds and how Sunderland had no chance.
So when they scored I was really pleased for the underdog.

Also knew a Sunderland exile (a big fan) at work years ago, so I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for them behind Rotherham.

Luckily I found our coach and only got punched once in the back of the head as I jogged through it all. I sat on the coach watching in disbelief.

They were gloating horribly and really winding us up at the end. Now, I've seen United win four quarter finals (Blackburn, Coventry, Leeds and Charlton) and whilst we were jubilant in victory, I don't remember anything other than total respect for our vanquished foes, even Leeds. In fact, as I hitchhiked home after that game I was picked up by a Leeds fan heading back to London and he was a very decent chap, admitting that they'd deserved to lose.

But those Mackems were really goading us, and as the Swindon Town fans who ventured too close to the away end after that 5-5 draw found out, there's some very angry Unitedites who have a hard punch, and a kick.

I think if you leave the game almost 10 minutes before the end, when we are playing well and winning 3-0, just to get to the bar quicker, you deserve any misfortune that befalls you tbh.

Is your beer really so important that you can't wait until the end of the game? How about staying and supporting the boys and showing your appreciation for a very good performance?
I don't want to fall out with fellow blades but if I want to leave 5, 10, or 20 mins early I will, I don't get why people get in such a state regarding this, its my seat/ticket so I can leave when I want too thanks and to me it was obvious the game was over, utd we're winding down the clock and Sunderland had gave up so I went early so I could get a seat and get a beer without the mad crush if that's ok with the forum police on here

You’re forgiven Stan...

Quick question. Are you a Stantheman fan, or Stan, the man fan?

It's going to be important on here.......

Apart from the fact that (it appears) you're invariably sat (or were) next to me or on my row when hearing a crowd response to summat happening on t'pitch, you stop, turn round, ( in front of me) & ask " what happened?
If you've ever been told: "fucked if I know, some cunt blocked my view" or (more politely ?) "If you're goin, fuck off" , we've met, but at least you were first to t'bar ( although I'm (also) that belligerent twat that shoves in after you've been queuing for 10 minutes) !

Good mixed crowd in Sentinel Brewery before the game too, no trouble at all.

Unfortunately I go to games with someone whose need for alcohol exceeds his desire to see a full 90 minutes. Wish i’d never « entertained » ( ooer missus) him
