The angriest I can remember me being at a football match ,I felt like leaving before a ball was kicked and the reason so many fans don't bother watching the wankers who get paid fortunes for playing football. A minutes silence in recognition of real men who laid down their lives so these imbeciles have the freedom so get paid a million per cent more than them and they haven't got the grace, patience, decency or even fucking brains to stand still and acknowledge people who are a million times over better than them. 3 players (sheffield united players ) thought their time was better spent excercising neck muscles , stretching calf muscles or turning around and spitting than standing in respect. I would gladly kick those 3 bastards out of our club and suffer a relegation if thats what it meant.
 



I didn't notice this and thought the minutes silence had been observed as it should.

Disappointing if any were stupid enough (I don't for one minute they'd do it deliberately) to not pay their respects in the normal manner.

I don't think naming the players publicly would help ,but it is probably the 3 you would expect to be honest. Maybe I am being a bit over observant because I was paying special interest as my son is due to go on a 6 month tour in afghan soon and I know what these guys go through compared to over paid footballers.
 
I wouldnt be too harsh on them sitwell.

I was gutted yesterday as i walked into work. (or rather rushed & was late)
I didnt realise that the time was just after 11am...........
I soon realised after a stare down from my manger why everyone was so quiet.
Felt like abit if a cunt mind you. :(

I saw nothing but a perfectly observed silence, yes the odd player may have moved a tad but hardly worthy of such a rant
 
I saw the player who turned and spat and didn't like it. The lads keeping warm I can understand (you can reflect whilst stretching) but I didn't feel the spitting was needed.

Having said that, the spitting player was one of our better players today. Not that that excuses him.

You are wrong and it was enough to deflect my attention to what I really wanted to think about. My 7 year old daughter managed to stand and reflect without moving and she had a full bag of Minstrels in her hand ,its not that difficult.
 
Armistice day has never been, and should never ever be about currently serving soldiers.

I would have thought it would have been obvious.

Anyone who is in the army nowadays is there through choice. Aside from the pals battalions, those that fought in the 1st world world war were not there through choice.

Do we have a day to remember the firemen that died in the line of duty? Or coppers?

No we don't. Armistice day should be about remembering the 1st and 2nd world war dead. Most of them didn't have a choice.
 
Absolute nonsense! Of course it's about serving soldiers. Yes, it's their choice to join up, doesn't make it any less painful for their families when they get killed.
 
I'd be all for a worldwide veterans day to remember all those that have died in conflict.


Armistice day should be kept for those that died during the 2 world wars however.
 
Sorry Highbury, but I think you are trying to be un-necessarily complicated and you should really shut up and stop trying to prove some pointless point.

Remembrance Sunday is exactly that, a day of remembrance for all who have served this country in conflict and made sacrifices. It matters not one bit if it was WW1 or 2, Korea, Ulster, Aghanistan, the Falklands, Iraq, or here in the UK. Neither does it matter one bit if it was 1914 or last week, whether they were conscripted or volunteered, or the historical justifications for the conflict. We hold the day of Nov 11th, Armistice Day as the focus of that but suggesting that it shouldn't include modern day service men and women because they joined of their own volition is crass, insensitive and disrespectful at best. I will put it down to the beer...

I agree with the first - that we should have a global rememberance day (yes we should include the Taliban as well) but I disagree with the second but understand your point.

If I was God I'd ban war...

Sad that you have to respond with insults. But I understand why you would feel the way you do.
 
Sadder that you feel the need to hijack a thread with such disrespectful views. 385 soldiers killed in Afghanistan ,should we not take time out to remember them because they chose to fight for their/your country ?

With respect to Highbury, I don't think he ever said that the 385 should not be remembered. Not saying I agree or disagree with him, but his point was that Armistice Day was inaugerated to remember those killed in WWI and WWII and has been altered in recent years to become a remembrance of all killed in military service.

Yes we should, if they have fought under the Union Flag they should be honoured, whichever Century .....
