Congratulations to Harry Maguire!

GLTTL indeed!

A South Yorkshire back three of Walker, Stones and Maguire is quite likely.

He wasn't good enough in League One, he's not good enough in the Prem, so now he gets a chance to prove he's not good enough at The World Cup!

More Bladey Blade Crap!

GLTTL......o_O

Danny Rose is from Doncaster and Cahill from just over the border in Dronfield. If we adopt Cahill it could be a S.Yorks back 5!

It's a pity Jags isn't a couple of years younger and we would have a clean sweep of the England squad's defence.

Especially pleasing as I said to my family and friends after his first few games that he had the potential to play at the highest level. I know a good centre half when I see one.

His supposed lack of pace never worried me. He’s quicker than he’s perceived to be and is a yard in front in his brain anyway.

He is a good lad, but we sold him for fook all and the same with Walker. They are playing in the world cup but they are not our players anymore.

We have sold the family silver every year instead of building a team around those players. I would not mind so much if we got Southampton level fees but our board sell at the first sniff of cash at derisory levels.

I will enjoy seeing them play for England but with regrets.

I hope Southgate takes the chains off him and let him charge forward with the ball from defence. When he does that and gets his momentum up he’s so big and strong and good on the ball he takes some stopping.

On ex blades that have made the world cup. Look whose been chosen for egypt. Our old Egyptian friend. Ahmed fathy

Bit of an odd career for him really. Clearly has talent (player of the tournament in the 2010 Cup of Nations), over 120 caps, at 33 off to the World Cup, yet has never been able to make it at club level outside Egypt.

Understand the sentiment but buying and selling players and valuations is all in the timing.
At the time most people agreed the Maguire and Walker sales were good deals for us.

Let’s imagine David Brooks is going to be a top international for Wales
Also let’s imagine that the transfer market is going to get even bigger in 5 years time, where 100 million signings are the norm.

If Spurs offered us 25 million for Brooks this Summer.
Should we say no it’s too low and then put Brooks salary up to £40K a week.
At this moment in time we can’t afford to pay 40K a week wages and it could ruin the club financially.

Also remember Maguire had shown loyalty to Sheff Utd by being our best player and best defender in league 1.
Whilst ever we were in league 1, we were holding him back and ruining his career.
He had become too good and outgrown league 1 It made no difference what we offered him, he desperately needed to move.

If we had gained promotion to the Championship then I reckon he’d have stayed.
He wasn’t getting game time in the PL with Hull. With a big pay rise he’d have still progressed with us in the Championship.

Also let’s not forget for every Maguire and Walker, there’s a Jordan Slew and Di Gerelamo.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Speak for yourself.

I’m not speaking for myself though. I’m stating facts.
The big dissapointed was with the Naughton sale.
Don’t think anyone was that interested regards Walker, he hardly played 1st team football and was unproven.
Think we had a gentleman’s agreement to loan them back but Spurs changed their mind.

However in retrospect of course they’re proving to be bad sales.
Shame as we could have tried to build the team around them if we had been in the Championship.
However you do realise that if Maguire and Walker had stayed then their valuation wouldn’t have increased that much, so we wouldn’t have gained the big 20 to 30 million transfers fees.

Anyway you haven’t answered the question.
Let’s imagine we have a crystal ball and can see that Brooks will be a top PL and international player in 5 years.
Then should we refuse a 25 million bid for him this Summer and bust the wage structure paying him £40K a week?

It was readily apparent to anyone who saw Walker's 5 games in 2009 that he could be a big star. A number of people commented on it. My father said he was the best United prospect he'd seen in decades. And so it has proved.

As for Brooks, I would sell for 25 million, because that's more like what he's worth. More than the derisory sum we got for Walker or the money we got for Maguire, which was half what we asked for. Plus we need that money this time for a transfer budget for a manager who I regard as a decent choice of players. The other times we gave it to a manager who pissed it away on loan signings and one who was incapable of singing centre halves he actually liked or players who were fit. Unlike those two, Wilder has a plan. Plus unlike Maguire and Walker we have decent players in the same position Brooks plays.

25 million? Yes please. You can win promotion if you use that money well.
