Don't see how calling something tedious would suggest I would ignore it, we deal with tedious things everyday.

I find it necessary to comment as the thread has been set up with the patronising tone of, 'do you regret brexit now'? No, seeing him win a few flick ons isn't enough to make the majority change their mind, given that for most it was non-footballing reasons that made them complain.

I've always taken the view that I like players for how they are on the pitch and not outside of that, although there are exceptions - I'm thinking mainly of Marlon King, but even then, it was because he did such an awful first interview.

I know Madine has done some silly, and very unpleasant stuff off the field which are well documented, but ultimately its how he does on the pitch that matters, as long as he is well behaved, and he seems to have been out of trouble for many years now. I've played amateur sport for many years and I didn't always like my teammates, but once you're on the pitch you just want to win, and as a fan that's the same.

I actually think Madine deserves some credit from how's turned his career around His career was very much going backwards, both on and off the pitch at Wednesday. He wasn't good enough for Wednesday in the Championship; he had a couple of short and unsuccessful moves and then had to drop down to League One with Bolton, and there were question marks on Madine back in the Championship. He's transformed himself at Bolton into a top target man forward at the Championship level. I can't think of anyone better in that role. He can't do that unless off the pitch he is dedicated, looks after himself and is professional, because managers like Wilder, Parkinson and Warnock just wouldn't tolerate it, and nor would our group of players.

At most I doubted the signing, solely because of character, but trusted Wilder.

Never doubted what he could bring to the team and I sat smuggly yesterday as he came on and totally swung the game in our favour.

It was also a pleasant experience watching a game where we had someone to totally shithouse an opposition defence. Long long time since we had that physical nastiness upfront. Not saying we need it for 90 minutes every game, but soo good to have it in our armory.
 
He is making a huge effort on the pitch. I've heard nothing about him off the pitch. Playing for a good footballing side clearly suits him and he has been a great asset to the team.

When he got subbed at Villa he clapped towards the Blades fans, as one would expect. When we sang a song about him, he tuturn back again and clapped. I liked that.

I didn't object at the time, seeing the logic of Wilder's decision. And I'm delighted so far with the impact he has made.

Yep. He's been great for us since he joined. Gives us a presence up front and is better on the ball than I thought.

Madine hasn’t done anywhere near enough yet on the pitch to justify a I told you so thread.

Add to that a few good cameos won’t change people’s opinion on him as a person. He will still be a prick of the highest order if he scores his first goal in over a year.
 
When the infamous incident over 6 years ago [I think], he was a young man and alcohol was involved, & he was relatively wealthy for his age! Age, alcohol & ego are not good bedfellows. Having 2 sons just a bit younger than him I can testify from experience!

6 + years later he will have grown up a lot, & maybe recognises his own failings, & like most of us has probably matured a bit. How many on this site have done stupid things they are ashamed of, or wish they had never happened, plenty including myself if we were all honest.

For all these reasons I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, in my game we believe in redemption!

Unfortunately I struggle to be so understanding to our own 'sinner', his actions were of a completely different magnitude in my eyes, particularly as I have a daughter. But there is hope........

Some fans didn’t want us to sign him for whatever reason and we were a very good side before he came in so I wouldn’t roll the red carpet out for him just yet. :rolleyes:
 
I find it a bit sad that so many people's morals and standards are determined by how well someone plays football.
 
I was dead against his signing but it's in my nature to give everyone a second chance.
Washer has seen a chance for a second go at the prem and hopefully knows if he acts the twat this time hes done.
Time will tell.
 
Agree with many of the viewpoints on this thread.

I expected Madine to give us that James Hanson option when we can’t knock down strong defences but he has slightly more ability than I expected. Looks a good/ astute signing so far but it’s far too early to dish out any plaudits.
Not bothered about the morality of players because I don’t need to socialise with them and be a friend
Also there’s a potential to be an hypocrital because many players have done immoral things in their past.
Try not to mix politics with supporting my club.

Used to fart at opponents, but very incisive in attack and a great defender. Highly vocal and for some reason his colleagues used to get penalised for using their arms a lot.
 
I think the issue most people I've spoken to have is that they can't see the line between footballer and person.

CW / AK have assessed his footballing attributes and decided he'd be a good fit for us. They were right.

HIs past behaviour and general nature have dictated that he's a bit of a dick.

Ergo, conflicted views from fans.

My view is that he's added to our side in a quality way and definitely gives us an extra edge, but I don't want to go out for a beer with him.

He's played 200 minutes plus injury time.

Decent start - a good start, I suppose. But too early to make any judgment.

A goal or two wouldn't go amiss.
 
I wasn’t against his signing because I had seen a couple of his performances against us in the past, where he absolutely terrified the United defence and I thought I wouldn’t be against us signing a player who gave us that option.

With his off the field behaviour, it had left a lot to be desired in the past, but I think enough time will have passed now for them to be spent, and it seemed like that the money and status that he had a few years ago had gone a bit to his head, and the fact that he is now playing at a decent standard rather than disappearing off the radar tells me that he has grown up a bit.

The possibility of us singing Madine intrigued me, and if anything he is the player we’ve signed who in the past it would have been unimaginable that one who once he was in a red and white shirt I would have loved him. Loved the way he bullied the Boro defence who themselves were no shrinking violets, and also apart from his obvious strength, he is a lot better all round footballer that I ever realised he was, and he will be a huge asset for us between now and the end of the season although I don’t think he will score many goals, such is the selfless nature of his game

Yes.

He’s contributed more than enough to ask people if they over reacted when they literally hoping he failed.

Goals will come but they’re not as important as he brings so much to the attack and allows others the space to score. He’s been desperately unlucky not to score with the effort McGoldrick turned in from offside against Boro and hitting the inside of the post for Billy’s 2nd at Villa.
