The title of the thread is pretty self explanatory really. I think at this point we have seen enough of Lyle Taylor to cast a verdict on the lad, who we blame for his lack of goals for a supposed striker is down to you lot, we all have our own opinions.

- He's had plenty of pitch time.

- He hasn't hit the net as of yet for a so called striker.

- He got 29 last year, albeit in scotland but never the less proves he knows then the back.of the net is.

- He's playing up front with very little service as of yet.

What reasons do you have?

I personally think he does have enough about him to score goals at this level. I have seen enough of him to see what he is about but as of yet we haven't played to his "poacher" style of football. He's a modern day fox in the box / get under the defenders toes type of player but we haven't been delivering the ball in the right areas and he hasn't had the support he hasn't needed from attacking midfielders. He's been marked out of the game and as a sole striker hasn't had the time or space to make things happen every game.

That said he has missed a couple of notable sitters already this season. I am willing to put it down to nerves but seriously a professional striker should be putting efforts like that away and again another cliche but they should definitely be hitting the tagret!.

My opinion is that I still back the lad to make an impact. I still think he will deliver the goods and I still think he can hit double figures in league one however I think he need to adapt to his style of play. A lot of it is common sense and how we should be looking to play in this formation anyway. Personally however I still also think that having a knock down man alongside him or at least another player to link up with will bring the best out of Lyle Taylor as he's not the most physical of players and he needs a partner in crime to bring him into play and make him some time and space.

So forgive my long winded answer, I know I wobbled a bit but I still back the lad and blame the system.

I dont think Murphy has been utilised as he should have been

I dont think you can really judge Taylor the service to him has been non existant I dont know what formation Falkirk played but he is probably used to playing in a 4-4-2 takes some time getting used to playing a lone striker , he may not be suited to that role

Both players have been described as light weight and esily pushed off the ball, can lightweights survive in a League like League 1.

We need Porter to play to be the foil and bring the best out of Taylor IMHO

Now I say Porter because we have no one else to do that role.

I'm excluding Ironside as he's nowhere near ready

I feel like I've hardly seen him play, purely because of how few chances we've created. He's fucked if he misses a sitter as that will probably be his only chance in the game. The best strikers in the world don't convert every chance. Give him some time I think. As for Murphy, I'm afraid he's now on the lost cause list with Flynn

What Pedro said. It's the same thing. We play Murphy out of position and therefore he hasn't been utilised properly.

There's no doubt the Scottish Premier is a very poor standard, possibly even Conference level when you take Celtic out, but even if it's that poor you'd expect bringing two top players out of the Conference to League One, they should be able to do a decent job. There's not that much difference between the bottom half of League One to the top of the Conference, as we see most years when the Conference winners are installed as one of the favourites to win League Two. I think there's still a hangover from the Danny Wilson days. For all the change of style, we don't look much different. There's the same lack of energy and will to go out and win, as opposed to just waiting for it to happen, throughout the entire squad. The lack of a midfield general or lethal striker means the squad has no cohesion. There's nobody to grab the game by it's balls and spur the rest of the team on in the process.

This is why we've brought in Cuvelier. He's not a goalscorer but he is the type of player who can control a game. With his quality in midfield I think we'll see a gradual improvement in the coming weeks. We really need Taylor to find his scoring boots though. As I've just said in another thread, I hope the penalty he scored at Scunny can give him a boost.

I think 4-4-2 is the best option with what we have maybe try this

...............................Long...............................

McMahan........Collins.....Maguire........Hill

Brandy...........Coady.........Baxter.......Cuvelier

......................Taylor.............Murphy................

I know Doyle is captain but i am sure collins can take over, Liverpool will want Coady to play and i'd like to see that as well. That formation can soon revert back to 4-5-1. Obviously this can't be the team Saturday.

Taylor's barren streak is all my fault, I used him as the basis for my password at work and the player never performs well when I do that. The good news is that the 30 days is almost up, so you can expect a revival!

O goals in 34 League One appearances. The guy must be approaching some kind of record.

Looks nice in theory but it's far too attacking, you can't play 4-4-2 and play attacking players on both flanks. Also Baxter likes to get forward, I'm not sure Coady can shield the defence by himself.

Isnt the best form of defense to attack? ala Keegan?

Taylor and murphy up front? Who would win anything in the air? hold the ball up? They are both weaklings. If we go 442 has to be Porter and one of the blank shooters. Preferably Miller when he returns.

Works for me on Football Manager ;)

Taylor is taller than porter. :D

I think murphys useless lightweight and just crap, Taylor not getting the right service but I sti don't see him getting the goals even if he does start getting decent service. The miss against MK Dons was nearly as bad as Brandy's!

I changed my password today - get money on him scoring tomorrow......
