"BRYAN Robson will have read with interest reports that Juninho, the magical Brazilian he first introduced to English football, could be poised for a return to these shores.
Hull City, buoyed by funding from their new owners, are believed to be holding talks with the former Atletico Madrid midfielder about an unlikely move to the KC Stadium.
The 34-year-old was scheduled to arrive in England last night for talks with officials from the Championship club.
But the relationship he enjoys with Robson, who signed him for £4.7 million in 1995, means that should the Sheffield United manager decide to enter the race he would pose a serious threat to Hull's plans.
Robson clearly plans to use the draw of playing for an ambitious and revamped United to good effect in the transfer market having jumped to the front of the queue chasing Scunthorpe's Billy Sharp, the 32-goal striker who started his career at Bramall Lane.
Phil Brown, Robson's counterpart in East Yorkshire, has declined to comment publicly.
But, having attempted to draw a veil of secrecy over the matter, he will be acutely aware that the leak could be interpreted as signal to United should it be traced back to Juninho's camp.
The South American enjoyed two spells at Middlesbrough earlier in his career after Robson lured him from Sao Paulo only to sell him when a points deduction condemned the Teesiders to relegation in 1997.
Speaking about Juninho in his recent book, Robson, who subsequently brought him back from the Vicente Calderon on loan when Boro returned to the top-flight, said: "I knew we were getting someone special.
"He could do a bit of everything. He had great pace with the ball, he had skill and vision and scored fabulous goals.
"He was tiny, but that didn't worry me because you could see he was brave and never
intimidated ... our fans loved him and I think the whole country took to him because he was such an exciting and likeable player." "
