Looked a little bit off the pace of the game when he came on,or is that how he is,dont want to be harsh as its the first game, maybe he will get 90 minutes in the Walsall cup game.

Whats your thoughts.

He was brought on to add a bit of fight and defensive solidarity to the midfield but that's not his game, he's more of a coutts type. Personally I'd have brought Wright on and shifted Basham up to midfield. The 3 point suggest that he was sufficient in the role though.

Looking forward to seeing him v Walsall on Wednesday. And hopefully Brooks from the start. Thomas as well.

Lost possession a couple of times and generally looked out of place. He will get to grips with this in the coming weeks, highly rated lad that will do well for us.

I thought he looked well off the pace too, seemed very slow, but it's far too early to pass judgement and I trust Wilder/Knill/Mitchells opinion enough to allow him the benefit of any doubt

he played a beauty of a pass/through ball to one of the strikers late on , just didn't quite fall right though.

I'm concerned about him to be honest.
He's not Leonard, he's not the box to box midfielder who can be a bit of a general in there... but maybe he was never supposed to be.

Early doors innit.

Chucked in at the relatively deep end from the relative backwater of Oxford, give him a few games to see what he can do

Came on with our backs to the wall so can't judge on that. He is a quarterback type player not a Monty type player who throws himself into tackles.

He put a good shift in and put 2 solid tackles in! One of the tackles was the strongest in the game!

He's a big lad, and will come on regular as a sub for his size for set plays.

We're short of a midfielder. He was brought on to do something that isn't his game. If an extra 250k would get Leonard we should bit the bullet and do it now. Our bench is very weak.

I get your point but as it stands our bench could do with being a bit stronger as the players you mention aren't fit enough.

They are back on the grass as CW put it,so not far away, who are the weak links from todays bench who will make way when the 3 i mentioned are fit, plus when the 2 Lens are signed.I understand Jake Eastwood is untried and untested at this level, but to call Lavery,Lafferty,Lundstram JWS,Duffy and Brooks a weak bench is frankly ridiculous

My point is that I'd like another two players in to make the team stronger which will also make the bench stronger.

Whose place will Ched, Hanson and Baldock take on the bench?

I think CW agrees with you on the 2 extra players, hence his pursuit of the 2 Lens,as for the question you posed, ain`t got a clue, tough one for the manager, but a good problem

Still undisided, although I thought Stearman had a much better game than previously, just needs to command the defence with a little bit more authority, but we closed down a lot and Blackman shone today, really impressed with some of his saves, be good to push Moore on too!

Like a Monty without the tackles, Hammond without the deception and Wallace without the injuries. That'll do me.

We have a number of daft posts around at the moment don't we. I think about 665 before that one...

Everytime I've seen Stearman he is the most vocal of everyone. He won every single header! Defensively he did everything right.

However when on the ball he makes some strange choices. He headed one inside and launched one forward for no reason.

I understand and agree with your post. However a centre half who lost the ball 2/3 times from in possession but having a sound defensive play is what I will take all day.

JoC lost the ball many more times but it's okay as he's not new and under the spotlight.

I agree with you. I know we've only seen a glimpse of him, but when I heard we were signing I checked out as much as I could find about him, including looking at clips of some of his "highlights". What I saw there was a slow, calming, pedestrian type player. One who is always good for sideways or backwards pass. When he came on yesterday, as others have said, he looked completely out of his depth to me. Far, far, too slow. Brentford were very quick though weren't they? Maybe that's not typical of all Championship teams? Maybe it is? If it is then Lundstram will need to find something in his game to cope with that kind of pace. Let's see by all means, but based on that snapshot...not convinced.
