LUNDSTRAM AGENT SAME AS DUFFY'S

At the end of the day (as with all jobs) you are offered the money you are worth to the business (ok some negotiation may have to take place to get the right number), if you don't like it you go elsewhere. I think most people understand how Sheff Utd play it by now by looking at what happened with Duffy, Donaldson, Cole, Jerome Sinclair (and possibly even Henderson).

It is believed that Lundstrams has the same agent as Duffy and is trying to exert more money out of the Blades then they are prepared to offer. Now I understand it is the agents job to look after his players interests but may be Lunny should have a word with Duffy and how it as affected his career .This agents actions did nothing but damage to his players career.Duffy must be regretting his agents actions.
They've only got the same agent because they are both Scousers and the agent can understand and speak in Scouse - essential when negotiating a deal with a Scouser.

You’re not factoring in that United were receiving 1 million a year tv money for those years in league 1.
Then when we reached the Championship our tv income increased to a massive 6 million tv money every year.

The above is the budget we’ve been working with for years.
So imagine the budget setters within SUFC when they are now receiving an unbelievably high 120 million every year.

The entertainment industry is based on economics.
The more income the performers bring in....then logic suggests they deserve a significant share.
Appreciate it seems immoral but football has never been as popular....millions are happy to pay big sums to the industry.
I totally agree with regards that he has to make the best decision for himself, his family and his career. If he wants to earn anything like the numbers you quoted then he needs to leave. To us he's not worth over 20k, so there's the offer, just don't fuck about if you want to go. Just get it done this summer and ensure your new club are well aware of the transfer fee we want and lets do the deal. You'll go with most fans best wishes.

That goes for any player, we have a wage structure which will increase season on season, but it is key to keeping our squad in harmony and balanced and we reward those deserving players within that structure where we can. If you want to jump up now while you can earn more elsewhere then you need to leave.

As always I just do not understand the argument that he's been offered £1 Million a year and that's more than an engineer earns. That's because he's got skills that are rarer and in more demand than an engineer, so I just don't get the relevance of that viewpoint.

Oh dear 🤨 It's called sarcasm and in this instance used to state that this particular post is 'old news' as the subject is already known and had already been discussed elsewhere! 👍
Don't sound so harassed by lesser mortals, I do understand sarcasm (cos I looked it up in a dictionary, folks) and you are on the ball with what you intimate.
Where I believe you faulted was the choice of head line.
My thoughts are whether those matelots wanted to be there or not they were and they were there so you and I can write our feelings and thoughts openly on this forum.

Uniteds stance is probably he’s done well....and could be a proper PL player...so let’s double his wages to £20K a week.

£20k/w is £1M/yr

as an engineer I have worked for 48 years & I won’t have earned 2 years at that rate

let’s have some perspective
He’s a footballer, keeping fit & playing a sport he loves
Wilder will only sanction what we can afford and what Lunnie is worth.
If the agent thinks he can do better elsewhere Wilder wont stand in his way.
As CW says we only want players who are happy here.

To be fair to Lundstrum he’s in a strange situation.

Lets say most of his career he’s been one of the better players in league 1 on £4K a week.
We give him the opportunity to ply his trade at Championship level and give him £6K a week.
In general he hasn’t quite been up to average Champiomship level....and looked just a good league 1 player.

He gains promotion with us and is now on equivalent £10K a week due to the promotion bonus.

Surprisingly he’s upped his game and looks pretty impressive at PL...however most of the time it’s when he’s sub..he offers fantastic energy and changes the game.
When ever he’s started he’s been decent but no where near as effective.

Uniteds stance is probably he’s done well....and could be a proper PL player...so let’s double his wages to £20K a week.
His agents stance is “average PL players“ get £40K a week....and his player have proven he can make an impact at this level.
The agent has probably received interest from other clubs....so knows Lunny can get £40K elsewhere.

However us Blades and Wilder know Lunny...he’s only performed well for 6 months and could easily be a 1 season wonder.
I still don’t know if Lunny is the real deal....he wasnt that good in the Championship so this season could be a fluke/ one off.

Lunny isn’t a young player anymore and is probably thinking he doesn’t mind joining a club like West Ham on £50K a week.
He might struggle there and his career goes down hill but at least he’s made his money.

Put yourself in Lunny’s position.
would you rather have £20K a week playing for Sheff Utd with regular football (but probably as sub) or
recieve £50K a week playing for West Ham.where there’s a risk you‘ll be found out and hardly play.

Young players can afford to be patient but players like Lunny and especially the older Duffy (who would be relatively poor by footballers standards) probably think they need to strike whilst their stock is high regards earning a big pay day.

I think you've pretty much nailed it here mate, I doubt you're far out with your numbers either.

I don't think your scenario would make Lundstram, or his agent the devil.
If Lundstram has indicated that, at this stage in his career, money is his prime-driver and his Agent believes that now is the opportune moment to capitalise on his profile-growth then good luck to them, no hard feelings, go to market, find a deal that's better suited to your client's desires and crack on. No dramas.

Lundstram's a very good player, but we'll survive without him and we shouldn't pay anything more than Wilder's valuation on his worth to the team.

I think it was writtten by his agent. To save everyone's time looking it says this,

"Initially priced at a paltry 4.5 million, he proved to be a steal as a starter that could provide a clean sheet and a goal or an assist at regular intervals. This made him the centre point of focus during conversations about Sheffield United. A few more steps in the same direction and there is little doubt that Europe awaits this talented Liverpudlian boy eager to show his skills. Whether that will be with Sheffield United or with a team with more financial pull, is yet to be seen. "

We paid half a million didn't we?

Given what we know about the extra year, I think United would value Lunny at more than 5 million.
4.5 million is roughly 86 thousand a week.

Doesn’t really matter if it’s the same agent or not. The agent could be Duffy’s dad for all it matters.

The club have a value and the players agent has a value. Naturally these will be different with each trying to chip a bit more in their favour. Lucky for us, we won’t be held to ransom anymore.

I don’t know any professional footballers, but I guess they must communicate with the agent during negotiations. Particularly at the level of pay Lunny will currently be at.

The valuations must be very far apart to be at an impasse after this many months. But Berge has come in, so Lunny is now not a nailed on starter. Maybe he wants out and is just trying to get a contract he simply can’t refuse.

One thing is for sure he’ll need to finish the season strong and then list him as available and let him go. May as well get a fee.

That's his Fantasy Premier League price.

I think this was his Fantasy Premier League price wasn't it? For me, Lundstram and his agent would do well not to conflate his FPL notoriety, with his ability on the pitch.

he's had what? A half to two thirds of a decent season so far in his tenure with us. If he had shown consistency in his time here, then yes you could make the case for rewarding him more. If he thinks he can do better, then GLTTL there's always other options out there for both us and him.

Berge’s arrival might well have impacted on what we’ve offered as a wage. We’ll probably have a policy where various tiers of wages reflect their place in the squad. Berge will have probably come in on either the top tier or likely starter tier. Lundstram will be one of the lowest paid, even taking into account the rises post-promotion, having joined in 2017. In fact he might well be the lowest paid of all the outfield players that have featured in the league this season.

Lundstram, while first choice for most of the season, is now competing with Berge. If all goes well with Berge’s development, Lundstram will find himself in the same position as someone like Luke Freeman, who was probably signed on more wages. Given what we expect his involvement will be next season, we are probably offering him maybe an average wage for the Prem, or somewhere between average and the lowest wage of one of our regular starters. He probably thinks he can earn a lot more than that performing a similar backup role elsewhere in the Prem. And he might be right.

Obviously speculating with all of that. But you can understand why in such a situation there would be an impasse.

Bit harsh. He's been phenomenal this season, and if anything, has upped his game since Berge arrived.

"That's his Fantasy Premier League price."

I was under the impression 80 thousand a week was the average pay for a premier league footballer.
Apologies to all if i'm wrong for not playing Fantasy Football.

And before I get steamrollered again by the forum gods, maybe everyone could take the time to look at this,

Marvellous stuff, a source with such attention to detail as to provide an average wage at “Norwhich”. I’m sure all their figures, which seem as much a guess as anything else given it’s unclear where they come from, add up.

As an alternative, the Global Sports Salary Survey from end of 2019 puts the average first team squad member at £61,024 per week. That’ll be way above the average in our squad obviously.

and he needs that move before next season starts because once he's identified as a midfielder his value will go way down!
(Disclaimer: I have not worked out how many points he would have scored as a midfield player because even in lock down I can't be bothered.)

This is the average salary, so will be skewed by the players on £100k+ per week no doubt.

I'd be interested to see what the median salary of players is, I suspect its far far lower...

Yes, as I said, the league average will be way above what our squad average is. I suspect plenty of squad players at established mid table teams will be on more than most of our squad. From Lundstram’s point of view, he probably thinks he can earn more as a squad player coming off the back of this season where he’s been heavily involved, than at the end of next season coming off the back of what would likely be a more peripheral role. I don’t particularly want to see him go, but if he does get a move this summer I won’t be critical of that decision.

I once did - pre lockdown - and then realised it was too boring even for me and have forgotten the answer

And cheers for finding a better example of the current footballers average wage. Its not a surprise old Lunny is after a bit more cash.

The link LoughboroBlade didn't give is here (its just a .pdf): http://www.globalsportssalaries.com/ .

On page 15 of the pdf there is a table listing the Premier "pay league". Guess where SUFC are?

A player for Man City, on average, receives 134k per week, whereas, if you play for the Blades its a (comparitively) miserable 13.4k per week basic.

This is the table,

Manchester City 7.0 million average per player per year (134K average per week)
Manchester United 6.1 million average/yr
Liverpool 5.5 million average/yr
Arsenal 4.8m average/yr
Chelsea 4.8m average
Everton 4.1m
Tottenham Hotspur 4.0m
Leicester City 3.4 m
West Ham 3.0 m
Crystal Palace 2.9 m
Southampton 2.3 m
Wolverhampton 2.2m
Newcastle 2.1m
Watford 2.0 m
Aston Villa 2.0m
Bournemouth 1.9m
Burnley 1.9m
Brighton 1.8 m
Norwich City 1.0 m
Sheffield United 0.7 million average/yr

FC Barcelona pay the most at 9.8 million/yr, Real Madid are 2nd, PSG are 12, Citeh are 13th. The highest Major League Baseball team are the Yankees at 32, and Man U at 33. The Blades are the 714th highest playing professional sports club in the world.

So there you go. Lunny wants more and good for him. He'll not get it.

Surely, 80k is just a starting point for negotiations and not a game.

The Illuminati and flat earth FC will be after you for posting that.....
Plus those covid 19 stealing monkey's
Oh my god, has Covid-19 reached Britain!!!???
There will be a lockdown next!
I best buy some bog rolls!

This site has another listing of total £ wage bills : https://www.sportekz.com/football/premier-league-clubs-wage-bills/

What stands out is, Alexis Sanchez earning more then our entire wage bill in 26weeks and he doesn't play for Man U ! Add to that De Gea's £350k wages when we already have their best goalkeeper! yet we will soon be above them and about to take their Champions League place....
