Great start by United this season but one factor that sometimes seems to be overlooked is that of the bounce of the ball/decisions and simply luck. You do make your own luck and I aint suggesting we are doing so well because of that or last season we did badly because of luck but does seem things are turning. The game at the Lane against wAlsall saw the ball spin the right side of the post twice afte Simonsen errors and then the ball hit the post and came out at the end when they nearly made it 3-3. We also had the deflected goal against Brentford.

I thought last season everything went against us (we were garbage mind) but does seem nice to see us having the rub.

Today it seems the goal we scored was not a goal (although apparently we had one disallowed that maybe should have counted?)

See what you think? Seems to hit the post and stay out. maybe we could argue Porter got whacked and it was a penalty though!

Didn't look like the whole ball was over the line from that video clip. I'll have to wait and see what Football League show say & show. Maybe they have a better angel of it.

It's a bad angle but from the first freeze frame the ball looks over the line, after that it's hard to judge but who cares we won :D

There's a picture on the official site with the ball clearly across the line but I'm not sure whether that could be a picture of the disallowed goal.

Both were at 'the other end' so it was difficult to tell from the Away end real-time.

As regards the refereeing decisions - the ref was poor today, but overall I thought we did better out of him than Yeovil did, and I can't remember saying we did well out of the ref many times last season. Referees always favour the 'fashionable' teams, which is why we usually suffer. In a League One context, and with the football we're now trying to play, we're probably more fashionable than most. I think we might find that this season we get more out of refs than we are used to.

it was a goal cuz the ref said it was.
Lampard's wasn't a goal cuz the ref said it wuzn't

'You make your own luck' is the key phrase. I think that we all get the same amount of luck, it is its makeup good/bad which counts. You dont suddenly get 100% good luck by trying harder, but you don't need 100%. 51% is enough.

I believe that you can slew the good/bad ratio in your favour with confidence and effort and my good friend, the power of positive thought. Say it with me brothers and sisters...

PS. It probably helps that we are now the glittering stars of the division too. Big clubs get decisions...

PPS It also probably helps that L1 players aren't as good as CCC players and so wont punish errors as frequently...

Just watched the highlights (if you can call them that) on the Football League Show and all the ball definately crossed all the line. Watched in in slow motion a few times and it was a goal.

Interesting point about luck. Last season we definately seemed to be down on our luck and we seem to be experiencing the opposite. I am not one who believes that luck evens itself out, but have to agree with Dunc that at the moment we are making our own luck. We are taking our chances, defending solidly and playing well as a unit. Although not setting the division alight, we are well organised, well drilled, extremely fit and we have just a bit more quality than the teams we have faced so far.

Credit to Porter for bravely sticking his head in there for the goal. According to some Southern numpty it was 'scrappy'. I think Lowton's 30 yard pass and Cresswell's chest down and neat touch into the danger area/onto Porter's head was pretty beautiful myself :)

Amen. Last season we handed goals out like sweets, sometimes after bossing games. This season we're solid, so the tight games are falling our way.

Blaming luck is a sign of crap management. I should know, my bosses do it all the time. :)

Oop t'Blades.

That looks like the disallowed goal to me, there's nobody behind Porter, Cresswell and the keeper were in that direction for the given goal.

Every misplaced pass or slip last season led to a goal. This year although we are cutting down on the mistakes they are still there and luckily we are playing in poor league where they don't seem to make you pay. I think we are not going to see a footballing side until the 2nd half of the season and we just need to keep getting victories however they come and it will involve alot of luck

Nope, the pic on the main site is the actual goal. The disallowed goal was a header froma corner that went into the back of the net. That pic on the site is Porter's header. If you watch the highlights you can see it was a goal. The Yeovil defenders did not even appeal.

If you slow it down enough you can see that the ball actually hits Cressy's hand as he clings to the outside of the side netting. This stops the ball nestling in the back of the net, but it's still well over the line.

perhaps we are having more 'luck' now that a. our manager has stopped baiting the officials.. b. the fa have decided that we are now serving our punishment for embarassing them over the tevez affair and have decided to lay off us for a while
