May be just guesswork?

Blade Lowton and Manchester City's Assulin Linked
Wed 14th Sep 2011 22:11

Sheffield United’s Matt Lowton is reported to have been the reason for boss Paul Jewell’s trip to watch the Blades in action against Huddersfield on Tuesday, as revealed by TWTD. The Blues are also being linked with a loan move for Manchester City’s Israeli international winger Gai Assulin.

Town have been linked with 22-year-old Lowton since July when Blackpool were also said to be interested. Soon after, the South Yorkshire club were reported to have put a £4 million price tag on the right-back, centre-half or midfielder.

The Blues are said to be targeting the Chesterfield-born player initially on loan but with a view to a permanent deal.

Assulin, who was born in Israel to a Libyan father and a Russian mother, joined Manchester City on a free transfer from Barcelona in August 2010 when some reports rated him at around the £34 million mark.

Israel’s youngest-ever full international, Assulin played youth football in his home country with Hapoel Haifa and Beitar Nes Tubruk before joining the Catalan side’s youth set-up in 2003.

In 2007 the 5ft 10in tall attacking midfielder progressed into the Barcelona B team then run by current first team boss Pep Guardiola.

After a couple of seasons in the B team, one disrupted by a knee injury, Assulin made appearances for the senior side in friendlies and in the Copa del Rey before moving on to City with Arsenal also reported to be interested.

Capped just the one for his country, against Chile in 2008, the 20-year-old is yet to make a first team appearance since moving to England.

A wide midfielder, like a right-back such as Lowton, is very much on boss Jewell's current wish list.

Seem to be hinting they can get him on loan first. That would be monumentally stupid of Utd to allow that...

From recollection Wilson has stated he won't be releasing any of his first team squad for loan. So it should be a sound jog on.

New Chief Executive reporting to have said we still need to make changes to "live within our means" so chance we might still see some movement out, just hoping it's not Lowton.

IF he goes then I don't think DW will have anything to do with it, but even with the need to balance the finances I think it would be a monumental mistake. In my opinion his potential is almost of Jag-like propportions so we need to hold on to him until we get promotion at the very least.

Just hope he doesn't have the same agent as the Kyles/Slew otherwise we might as well say bye-bye now.

Be one of those horsefield type loans where they take him now and have to buy him in jan

Well then we can command a fee for them to take him on loan and we then can command a fee for a transfer in January, he has a fairly decent contract length now so if United value at him £4mill, then Ipswich best get ready to stump up a health lump of cash.

Whatever happens before, we'll definately sell him in January, but probably not to Ipswich and it'll all be sealed on the last day of the transfer window.

United have 1 Million for Slew, so I expect the same for Lowton, with United settling for a 500k plus add ons deal.

We'll shrug the shoulders and blame the agents for instigating the move

We'll say that he was young and inexperienced so its a great deal for the club

We need to bring the wages down, but as Lowton is one of the lower earners, this excuse won't be peddled for Lowton.

In the mean time we won't even bother replacing him with anything other than an expensive ageing, injury prone loanee, you know the ones, the type that never had the potential of the player we sold, but his grandads mate had a trial for the blades U12's back in 1936. The new loanee will be "glad to be back at the lane" even though he's never been there before

McCabe or the new Chief will then make an off the cuff comment of "watch this space" when quizzed about a proper replacement.

2 seasons later we'll be talking of a promotion challenge with our young side to make it back into League 1!

Based on Lowton's defending v Huddersfield (& several other games when he's been up against a half decent winger), I think Ipswich may decide to look elsewhere. The sooner we use him as an attacking midfielder the better

There will also be more sightings of Mr J Beattie.

Spot on Swiss. This is exactly what we've been fed in the past in terms of gettin rid of good young talent. I hope he doesn't go to Ipswich.

Cynical? a little bit :)

Does anyone actually think that he'll be here in 12 months now that the first rumour has started?

The rumours started back in August, with Blackpool. I think he'll still be here if we're promoted, if not I cannot tell. I also don't think Lowton is like Slew and wouldn't actively persue a transfer away, but thats just how I precieve him.

Tell the ex-pig to play go hide and fuck yourself.

And if he truly wants him,for crying out loud Blades, ask stupid money- £4 million plus - and grow a pair.

not many players will want to play under that twat.he`s in the megson bracket for me-total wanker.

It would be a bad career move for Lowton to leave United just yet. He seems like a fairly grounded individual and I reckon he knows that. He needs to work on his basic defending and get that right before anything else.

I'd be very disappointed to see Lowton go in any of the next couple of seasons. He is young, raw, unproven and is on a long term deal. Plus he clearly cares about the club and does not seem interested in a move. Completely different situation to Slew.

Why on earth would he go to Ipswich and work with Jewell. If he gets his head down, works on his defends and concentrates on his football then he could certainly find a move to a bigger club than Ipswich. As compounds syas: on your bike Jewell, you fat scouse piggy never been. Nothing for you here. Hope you enjoyed the trip to Sheffield and BDTBL though. Much better city than Ipswich and the ale is much nicer (I am sure he drank plenty!?)

Lets hope Lowton still speaks to Slew. Apparrantly he is not happy at Blackburn, regrets seeing the pound signs as he isnt even warming the bench

Why would Lowton goto Ipswich?
I cant see what benefit to his career it would be?

I can just about squash this rumour if what lowton himself says is true, Matty lives in the same village as me and played footy with quite a few friends of mine, anyway my brother happened to spot him last week and they got chatting. Matty as no intentions of leaving united, he said hes enjoying his footy at united and hes happy with the way his careers progressing, he said uniteds the club he wanted to play for since being a small boy and doesnt want to leave because his family all live very close to our village and hes very family orientated, Now off the record they also got talking about united in general and the current situation and the league there in and he said the squad are a great bunch of lads and the team itself are convinced they can gain automatic promotion and thats what the players are aiming for. Matty asked my brother what he thought about the squad and my brother replied "Well i think we need a decent striker and we need to get rid of simmo" which brought a big smile to Mattys face and he agreed with it to a certain degree but said he wasnt going to bad mouth simmo but he could understand what my brother was saying. Anyways make of it what you will but thats what was said by Matty himself
