Good to hear he has signed a new 3 year contract. Not sure if 3 years is really "long term" as stated on our official website. To be honest would have preferred us to offer 4 or 5 years, would take him to 21/22 years old before we have to offer another to him.

Cloughie said in his audioboo that 3 years is the maximum the FA allows anyone to offer a 17 year old (I didn't know that).

It would have been longer if we'd been allowed to. I'm sure he'll get an extension once he's 18.

Great news for the lad looks a real prospect, hopefully this is a sign of things to come, signing players to longer contracts so we don't lose them for peanuts! Diego next, he's only got a year left!

I must say that at his age of 17 years one month is it? the lad is a diamond.

I have watched young lads from Badger, Shaw, etc. to now and I reckon this lad is a gem. For example, when Jags first played for us he was in midfield and he was athletic but limited. We learned he was a central defender naturally and in a way he was exposed out of posititon. not at any stage did anyone go "Wow" like they do for young Reed.

Of course he has to be developed. Of course he is good enough for our first team - BUT only if his fellow midfielders complement his play. The lad is tiny, defensive duties will take him 100 games to "man up" and do his bit. Until then he needs fellow players to do that side of the game for him and allow him to develop his strength and his experience.

Sorry, but Scougall and Basham do not do that. Nor would Baxter. He needs a Doyle or a McCall or a Monty there alongside him, doing all the unspectacular stuff and talking him through every game. Last Saturday he did everything very well, but he was not influential; who could expect the lad to be influential? Thing is the team needs to get promoted, it's about the team not just the lad.

Unless we have the right players around him I suggest he should go out on loan to get "wool on his back". This is SUFC, League 1, fourth term, and we need to go up. If we do not, the environment will be unhealthy for a 5'4", 17 year old, even if he were Maradonna.

Builds up his strength a bit more then this lad should do really well for us.

Really good interview from a mature young man. Looking forward to watching him develop, hopefully into a solid first teamer.

Glad we have got him nailed down. Hopefully he kicks on and goes from strength to strength this year and beyond. Looking forward to seeing Diamo, Khan, Diego etc all develop aswell this year.

Doesn't one of his parents post on here? Congrats to them too - must be thrilled.

Think Philip Reed is the man.

Big congratulations to Louis - the best compliment that I can come up with is that he hasn't looked at all out of place playing in the first team and that he has that rare ability of seeming to have time on the ball. Keep up the good work!

What really impressed me above his incredible composure and technique was his movement on and off the ball. His vision and sense of positioning is lightyears ahead of anyone else in both age and ability. It's the same instinct that made players like Van Nistelrooy and Lineker excellent strikers without any discernible physical attributes such as speed, strength etc. You cannot coach that.

Looks a class act - just needs those around him to show the same.
If not, it will be the Louis Reed development season and a couple of million pounds compo at the end of it.
.... Then we line up for yet another division 3 campaign.
