Louis Reed

Another top game today and looks like he's in the first team to stay.
He reminds me of Doyle without the clumsiness as he sits behind the natural midfield 4 and distributes the ball extremely well.
Bright future for him!

His passing was decent and he tried to keep it simple, which is ok. He was probably the best of a bad bunch. Good on the ball, less effective off it. There was very little resistance to them when they ran straight through our central midfield on a few occasions. This is by no means Reid's fault alone. Scoogs was very poor today and Basham, awful.

Reid looks good for his age. Very good. However, we won't get promoted with players that are merely good for their age. We need players that are good for the standard we're playing at. Today we had very few of them.

Louis turned 17 a couple of weeks ago but his touch and passing is already better than some in our side will ever achieve. Obviously he's still learning the game and his part in creating winning football but he is mighty impressive.

The side as a whole played as if it was the first time they'd played together, which of course it was.

Work in progress but hopefully a pattern will emerge.

Reed [not "Reid"] looks a fantastic prospect. The pass from just inside their half to the left-hand corner reminded me of TC. And such confidence at 17. Credit to the manager for giving this lad a chance and he can only get better with experience.

No idea why I put "Reid" in my post. I'm usually the pedantic one, and I am fully aware of the correct spelling. Oh well.

Anyway, as I said, he is very good for his age and should be adequate for the level we're at. We just need some more stand out players around him.

Let's just hope Hull don't come sniffing!
Seriously though, I hope NC sticks with him in the first 11

I thought he was very good and looked incredibly comfortable on the ball. Stick Doyle in next to him to do the dirty work and we'll be ok in midfield.

Clearly a real talent, but was he played in the right position?

I've not seen the replays, but should he have got across sooner to protect Harris for the first goal? And did he let Elliott get away for the second?

I might be wrong on both counts, but I still like a deep lying midfielder to protect the defence, especially the flakey centre back pairing we had today.

Looks like he has bags of potential, get the contract sorted.

Not sure I can blame Reed for anything as the lad is very young and learning all the time.

It's the experienced players around him that should be giving him advice and telling him where he needs to be. The lack of communication was a major factor today.

He reminds me of Doogie Howser without the white coat and stethoscope but I know what you mean.

Reed was one of our better players today, can't fault the lad at all, to say he has hardly any game time under his belt he sure put the other experienced players to shame. Should be one of the first names on the team sheet for the next game no question.

I wouldn't blame him, rather question whether he was played too deep. I'd prefer him to be given more freedom from defensive duty and have Basham or Doyle securing the area in front of the defence.

Certainly a bit of a Walk on the Wild side for Clough picking him, a couple of his tackles were a little Vicious, but apart from that he had a Perfect Day.

I was very impressed with Reed. He looked composed on the ball, and pinged a couple of exquisite long range passes straight to their intended target. The only criticism i can level at him is that he looked a little bit lightweight, as did Scougall yesterday. I thought Basham was poor, as she should have been offering a lot more defensively than he did.

I'm not saying either of the goals were Reed's fault, but if they had been, why should he not be blamed?

He is in the team on merit and, supposedly, an equal member. We cannot afford to carry anyone whether that's because they are young, old, lazy or rubbish. If something is any player's fault, they should be able to take responsibility for that. As Pinchy has said before. Our primary concern is what's best for the Blades here and now and what will get us promoted. Developing players is of secondary importance.

This is just a general point and not based on yesterday's game.

What!?! Is this some kind of sick joke!? Doyle?

Reed was good, it's infuriating me that Baxter looks to be getting overlooked already.
Jose is at the level now of what reed will be in 2-3 years.
He did some nice passes but what kind of goal threat is he?
If basham is going to play better and actually hold this season then the creativity needs to come from reeds position- he had a free role with the looks of things- A scholes role.... Baxter can be our scholes dammit!!

The stereotype of a holding midfield player that they must be terrier like is bollocks. Reed showed that yesterday. Give me someone who can pick a pass (like he did all afternoon) over someone who gives it straight back to the opposition which puts more pressure on us defensively.

Reed was let down by Scougall and Basham as the game went on. Much like Britton during his time at United, he was often looking for the right pass & making the right movement off the ball but it was wasted by our missing midfield & McGaheys insistence to hoof everything at least 50 yards.

Long term it might be worth putting Dimiao alongside him.

Please NO !!
Put Doyle in the stand and let him see out his contract doing good work off the pitch, because his legs were gone 12 months ago. He cannot keep up with play to do the "dirty work" so therefore is totally ineffective.

Yes, Reed need a minder but its not Doyle. Our midfield needs to be more robust not less mobile.
