Longer studs and proper corners

Allus struggled with Adidas WC and Puma Kings despite them being quality boots they were allus too narrow.
Hated flashy boots wi colours and shiz. Allus liked mine black as could be. Let me feet do the talking.
Had a pair of Nike Hotspur that did well for a season but quite a few Umbro.

One of most comfy boots I had in latter years (coaching not playing) were a pair of hand-me-downs from Ken Jnr. They were Kelme Shark actually made from shark skin, I shit you not. Really comfy and great control (allus ;))

He mostly wears Puma Kings these days. Soft ground wi' studs and moulded for hard ground. Doesn't go with bladed studs. A mate of his was wearing said studs on a power league pitch last night and twisted his knee during a shoulder to shoulder contact. A&E til 02:30 as a result. Bladed studs bad enough on real turf never mind artificial.

I had a pair of asics made from kangaroo leather, trouble was they were a dark red, so despite being very comfy, they didn't last long. Probably the best boots I had was around 20 years ago, Umbro with wishbone flex system, similar to adidas torsion at the time, they got replaced with the asics and since then it was pretty much adidas World Cup. Haven't played much on grass though as I ruptured the cruciate for the first time in 2007 whilst playing 5-a-side at dronfield. The boots I was wearing were moulded blades.

Now I've got World Cup, copa mondial and mondial team. All black

When I coached youngsters I discouraged the use of moulded blades because they grip too much and the thing that takes all the shock is the ligaments. I've never owned a pair and neither has Ken Jnr.

Still advocate not using moulded blades - not keen on the hybrid or the replicable ones either. The grip may be better but the chance of injury from them is so great it's just not worth it.

View attachment 10671 I've moved from puma kings to these beauty's, handcrafted to the last stitch from the finest Italian calf leather. Cinquestelle colibri

In the 80s a relative brought me back from Italy some boots I'd never heard of, but they were superb, but I could never get any more. Amazed to see you can still get Ryal boots today. Not sure how they compare to modern boots but if I was still playing today I'd probably opt for them.

The Valsport boots Borbokis used to wear were class, plus i also got to play in them. I blacked them out completely and they were the comfiest boots you'll ever wear.

Might be a blessing in disguise, perhaps now we'll start working on the bloody things in training rather than sticking the least terrible taker on them and hoping for the best.

The problem is, whoever takes them does the same - Baxter, Murphy, Reed, Campbell-Ryce.

Does anybody know of another team that takes floated corners like us? It's like catching practice for the GK

I know that their 'Keeper was wearing bright orange but did we have to aim for him deliberately every time?

Every corner today went straight into the keepers hands and one set up their first goal. Coutts ,JCR and Murphy all had a go ,all shit.

Which would lead me to believe they were doing as they were told

Floaty Fucking Corners, knock it off Nigel

He was asked about them before kick off and said we were going to mix them up.
We have been doing it for too long, I could understand it if we were owt like dominant in the air

But we aint, far from it ................. see what happens next game

I think you should always go in-swingers. With his ability to cross I'm surprised Harris has never been tried, especially from the right. I think the theory was the floated are less likely to be quickly cleared/as we're a small side they were hoping it would result in the ball dropping in the box and causing havoc. Sadly it's not worked so I suggest swinging it in towards the goal and hoping for a little flick to take it into the net.

I don't get why we are so poor at this, there must be all sorts of routines we could try.

I wonder if it's bc training and pre-season focus on open play and not set pieces, and with games coming thick and fast there's not much time to work on anything - though I find that hard to believe.

If we are going to cross it then Kennedy seems like our best player in the air(?), he wanted to go up towards the end today at 2-2 but Clough sent him back. (Not arguing the pros or cons just pointing it out.)

Given how tight we pass it around at the back and in midfield why are we suddenly scared when two men come out to cover one going for a short corner? If nothing else play it short and work it in: anything's got to be better than passing it to their keeper.

??

They scored from our corner.
Well the first decent corner we put into the danger area they cleared it, went on the break and scored... I think we should just play short and kick it out for a throw in down in the corner. We'd do better

??

They scored from our corner.

I was referring to when it got hoofed out to their striker who was in some proximity to two of our defenders, would have thought that one could have stuck it into row Z. Would have been clearer at the time, but on my phone the site has a habit of relocating my cursor into the middle of the quote text at the top, screwing everything up

Is it me but they don't seem to have a clue at Free Kicks, Corners or Throw Ins !
Free Kicks - either lets take the quickly and give the ball away or fire direct into their wall with a weak effort ( Oh for a Paul Gallagher)
Corners - either lets float them for their goalie to have catching practice or lets not beat the first man
Throw Ins - nobody moves, they just stand there !

Most Goalies love corner kicks floated in. especially as every one seems to be the same. Varying the type of corner makes it harder for the defenders to anticipate what is coming next, Hit hard and low (about knee to waist height) are probably the hardest for defenders to deal with and still within reach of our forwards. Higher probability of creating goals through tap-ins, OGs and ricochets than those that are 20 foot over our forwards or straight into the keeper's hands

Can anyone please enlighten me on any merits of watering the pitch before play starts or resumes, especially if it is already wet due to the weather. With less watering during match-days we might see a reduction in players slipping (especially ours) resulting in conceding goals, breaking our attacks down or causing knee and ankle injuries through players slipping and twisting. One other consideration is that our beloved club may save a few bob from water rates or having to buy longer studs ;)

The thinking I have is that if a team under pressure boots it down the pitch to the one player remaining up front, it will just skip on and run out out play or to the Keeper.

Have a dry pitch and longer grass it will hold up.

Best i can do

Thanks for that Worksop II, I understand your comment but doesn't it help (or hinder) both teams equally as all of the pitch seems to be watered?

last night two things pissed me off:

Half our players were slipping over a lot, Kennedy and Brayford spring to mind but several others struggled with their footing. Get em some proper studs in those fancy coloured boots

Corners reed took most of them, just checked sky stats and we had 9 corners, perhaps one creating a half chance. The corner taken by holt was the same as reeds though, just a little dink to the front post, mostly getting cleared.

This plan a corner doesn't work, we need to try different options and routines

That's all
We should have took mc,calls play book off him
