........... or lack of.

Are we missing a trick here ? We used to always have a player with a decent long throw into the opposition box from the side lines adjacent to the penalty area.

It's a great way of putting defences under pressure and can be as dangerous as a corner. It seems lately that we are stuck with short throws which can be difficult to control and makes it easier for the defence to contain.

Seems strange that we don't get someone to practice long throws and keep pressure on the opposition in their own box.

UTB !!

They're not utilised by good footballing teams for a reason. They're basically limp dick corners, and we often choose not to even put corners straight into the box. Throwing it short and creating a play is a better option than just launching one in for teams like us.

Disagree, when used well they are an accurate deadly weapon, especially when you have Clarke, Donaldson, JOC, Bash, Stearman etc in the box.

Wilder should consider this.

They have their time and place like anything, but I don't think they're a viable option for us long term. They're very much a percentages tactic.

I've always thought quick throws are vastly more useful than long throws. Same with a lot of dead ball situations, though not all.

The second the ball goes out the clock starts ticking down to the point where the opposition is at maximum preparation and in position for the throw. The quicker you catch them unprepared the better your chances of making something of it.

Massively inefficient way of trying to score, results in a low return rate and you are extremely open to being counter attacked. Ever wondered why the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool etc don’t launch long throws into the box?

The best way to try and score from a throw in is the wonderful 2nd goal we scored at home against Reafing. Intelligent movement, reverse pass, cross from inside the box for sharp to tap in.

Works well in the Sunday League, less so in the professional game. You'd have to be a good footballer and a long thrower, these are probably few and far between. Can you imagine us having Bromby instead of Baldock/Freeman just so we can throw the ball onto their defenders head more often?

When was the last goal anyone saw from a long throw?

Even less effective than corners which are crossed in to the box. Just risks losing possession and being countered. It’s why I’m glad to see we often play short corners now, a far more effective way of playing and often creates better goal scoring opportunities.

If chasing a game and in the last 5 minutes then yes, a good option to have but not for the rest of the time.

Waste of time IMO. We don’t have anyone with the ability to put in a good long through so any long through would just be a lofted ball an any half decent GK or CB in this league will eat it up

What's a long through? Is that like hoof but on the floor?

Stick your long throws where the sun don’t shine.
The odd player who can throw them in with pace almost like a kick then yes, they can be an asset.
However, nobody is going to convince me that is better than creating a chance to cross a ball with pace and swerve as far as making it hard to defend.
Thank god Wilder ignores the fans and does his own thing.

Is every commentator or pundit contractually obliged to mention how prevalent long throws have become this season? This ceased to be insightful back in November, but I've heard some variation of it at least three times during this game,

Long throws are one of my favorites, along with short and medium.

Thrashing around for reasons why Leicester persevere with accident waiting to happen, Luke Thomas, maybe he's their long throw specialist? 🤔

Though judging by his efforts tonight that would be a long shot/throw.
