I didn't go on Saturday but listening to P&G and on here it seemed like we played some really good stuff and played a lot more 'football' than recently, which is good.

However, just watched the highligts on iplayer and both goals, and Yeates' chance in the 1st half all came from long balls, so those of you who say its pointless lumping balls up to Henderson are wrong as it obviously creates problems for defences.

We don't want to see it all the time but it has its place. I guess the key is finding the right balance, which on Saturday, we must have done.

The Bartley punt forward was nothing more than a hopeful long ball - while I think he had a good game, I'm amazed that people are blinkered enough to think that Bartley made a 'great pass'. What made it decent was Camara's superb first touch and subsequent finish. Frankly, there is no other striker on the books that could have turned that pass into an immediate goalscoring opportunity. That was a case of pointless lumping, but it makes one hell of a difference if someone can turn an average pass into a good opportunity.

As soon as it left Bartley's boot, i thought 'what an aimless long ball.'

hmmmm...

It wasn't an aimless punt, and it wasn't a great pass, it was a ball into the right area, but for a change we had somebody with the pace & guile to make something of it. Admittedly against a gigantic, fairly immobile defence that was scared shitless of pace & guile. In a 4-5-1 with Hendo up top, it would have been an aimless punt. A pairing of Hendo (or Cresswell) and Camara gives us loads of options going forwards, and there was nowt wrong with balls like that. We usually slag them for hoofball, but that was the right sort of long ball in the general direction of the right sort of player. Lets hope we can get Camara properly fit & keep him fit.
