Long and Impossiball

Maybe our left sided defender (I can't be arsed to look back and see who it was because I don't need to allocate blame) should have done a better job of closing down and blocking the cross

Harris's positioning is fine. Hammond's tracked the runner back and can make an easy clearance, he just opts not to.

Fair play for not needing to allocate blame - what a fantastic Blade you must be.

Have I said Long was to blame for that goal? No. Have I said the defenders were blameless? No.

I'm just saying that maybe (note maybe) Long should have been able to dive on that cross as it was only ever going to go across the face of goal and it wasn't too far from him. I don't know if you watch much football but goalkeepers do occasionally do that.
well you got one bit right, I'm a huge big ginormous Blade me.

The rest of your post is a very feeble attempt at sarcastic irony but I'll let you off as I'm a happy go lucky type of chap who doesn't like to dwell on negatives, the past, or anything I can't influence myself.

Have a nice day :)

were there not two palm outs to opposition players? One saved by quick reactions from Basham and then a great second save. The other skied it over the bar? How slow was his reaction to the lob?

I prefer Long to Howard btw, he just needs to work on holding shots or palming out to the sides (like he did with the first shot on the highlights).

Having watched the highlights, I have got to agree with you Robbie, the shot which he palms out wasn't travelling with any great speed, and had it landed at the feet of one of the opposition we would probably have gone one down. Yes the follow up save was decent, but had we conceded I suspect you wouldn't have been getting as much criticism.

Stonewall penalty on Che if you ask me.

Fair play to Walsall, from the brief highlights they looked pretty good. Maybe a draw there will prove to be a decent point.

Good man. Post an over the top response to a perfectly reasonable post in the first place and then take the high ground!

Trying to hold on to the ball is not always the best option for a keeper, especially if the ball is hit hard. If he tried to catch it, the ball might pop out of his hands and end up conveniently at the feet of their striker for a tap in.

Quite. But good goalkeeping coaches train to make sure the parry is to the side of the goal or out of play, where defenders can then be set up for rehearsed set piece routines.

Long parried the ball forwards to our players time and again yesterday. Why we didn't take advantage of that and get more shots from distance in, I don't know. It was a clear weakness from what we saw.

Having said that he kept you in the game.

Watching the highlights again http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...league-one/10074769/walsall-1-1-sheffield-utd Long was lucky not to gift them at least 1 goal. There's are a could of palm outs straight towards their players and the laughable lob watch.

He's not trying to hold balls. He's palming everything, which given where the ball is going, is quite frankly bizarre. I can only assume he's been told to do this?

Have to say, this was my first thought on watching the highlights. He made some saves, but if any of these had dropped at a strikers feet we'd all be ranting about how he's always doing that.

He needs to start pushing these shots wide - out for a corner or a throw in. It's a concern that he's our first choice tbh

He's def getting bigger and stronger and that's got to help. He doesn't look like a kid between the sticks any more.

How lucky lucky are we to have Judean Peoples Front members as fans wanting to crucify our team members[/QUOTE]

Nail some sense into em! ;)
