I don’t live in Sheffield and I’m not shit hot with social media but I got quite excited about possible multi signings today, so I set up on Twitter and followed all the local journos.

All I’ve seen so far is - Here we are at Hillsborough - here is some Asian bloke talking crap - here is some Dutch bloke talking crap about some low- down Championship club.

Is it always like this - is there no realisation that they are being watched by a rapidly growing support base of a club pushing for the Prem?

The odd tweet of - Still waiting to hear of any exciting progress from Bramall Lane - would at least keep us informed that we hadn’t missed anything.

I always took people’s comments of media bias with a pinch of salt. Now I see what you mean.

Been like that since mid 70s and Save our Fowls campaign, and I suspect long before

Don't know if you know but Wednesday have just appointed a new manager.

It’s the official press announcement of their new manager, which they said was going to be the case when he was announced. Meanwhile we won’t announce anything on a signing till it’s done. There is zero bias here, unless you’re trying to find it.

It’s equivalent to a Wednesday fan getting into a state on the day Wilder met local media because there was blanket coverage of it yet nothing on Wednesday’s potential preseason signings...

All of todays signings will be on Radio Sheffield at 6pm tonight.

Oh there we go then, 7 minutes in and it's "keep em peeled regarding the Ryan Leonard signing".......

*yawn*

See if you'd mentioned this somehow being 'newsworthy' 3 days later in a media outlet of The Star's nature, I'd have agreed with you -

Wanting them to bug SUFC every two minutes for a player signing announcement and updates to still say 'nothing yet' I think is a little unfair :)

I have no complaint about their coverage of Wendy and their Dutch White Knight - my post was really a joke. I also don’t expect something every 2 minutes as you put it - but just once would be nice.

These guys run a programme called Football Heaven 6 Days a week about South Yorks football. Half of their audience - supporters of their most successful club - are waiting for the first announcement of a new player for 5 months or so.

I have run media relations for a large Company and your aim is to keep your audience base connected. These guys are not interested in that - they just report what is in front of them.

I am an ordinary fan - for 50 years - and I am disappointed that not one of them can spare 15 seconds on their phone - hence because they disappoint me they are not doing their job properly.

Hallelujah

You really don’t understand what I’m saying. A reporter’s role in today’s online media is to engage and hold their audience - not just to report facts.

A few simple lines - We’re here at Hillsborough for the new manager’s press conference but we’ll let United fans know as soon as we hear about the new signings you’ve all been waiting for.

It may seem unnecessary - but on all the courses that my guys went on it was emphasised to them that holding their audience when there was no news was the most important time. You already have them when there is news to tell them.

That’s virtually word for word what they said at the start of Football Heaven this evening.

All I wanted was a tweet saying that at 2 O’Clock.

I am on ordinary guy and like many I was waiting for it.

In fairness I don't think RS are too bad in this regard, and certainly can't be compared with you know who.

Who would you have wanted that from? The Wednesday writer?

I had no idea that a “Wednesday writer” existed.

Having thought about it, I think the primary issue here is with Media/Public Relations at Bramall Lane. If the Manager announces on Saturday that Leonard is “through the door” or words to that effect then there is an inevitable expectation of a formal announcement, or at least an update, on Monday. I guess if that had been issued then RS/Star etc would have passed it on.

As the Club failed to do that, a proactive statement from the media that any information would be passed on would have kept me watching their output, which is surely what they want to encourage me to do.

Yes, just as a United writer exists. So they were at Hillsborough tweeting about their new boss, as you’d expect.
The delay’s in his medical, the second part of which couldn’t be completed last Friday, so he’s undergone it today. Which was written on the website on Saturday.

We all read that, and that was why we were all waiting to hear today.

If there’s nothing for the journalists to say, then there’s nothing for them to say. I’m baffled by this post.

What’s the point in them saying anything about not having heard anything from Bramall Lane. It’s not a story.

Wednesday unveiling their new manager is news. Us not signing a player isn’t news.

Steve MaClaren been at the Just for men I reckon ,fooled them all. Toss Lucky my arse.

There’ll be no critical analysis either. No discussion as to whether he is a good choice. RS will be promoting him as a great choice, even though their hacks will never have heard of the fucker a week ago. They’ll be calling him by his first name like old buddies and spoon-feeding his “achievements” whilst ignoring his sackings. They’ll be speculating that the play-offs are still within reach. I’m not listening but all this will happen. It’s staggeringly predictable. Numpty Biggs will be at it as well.

When Bullen won his one game they were inviting calls as to whether he should get the job. That’s the intellectual level at which they operate. Knee-jerk, Pig-loving amateurs.
