Liverpool Fans

I don't like Liverpool. The city (got rich on slavery), neither of the football clubs (both of them, entitled nobs), and the quirky twats who are scousers. I have very few prejudices, but I'm afraid that all things Liverpool are possibly up there. Liverpool was the first place I had to give up my cash card before I could put fuel in my car. There haven't been any others. Liverpool has a particularly cruel sense of humour - they're good at dishing it out but can't take it back. They have no consideration that other towns and cities may actually be ok. They are no more or less knowledgeable about football than anybody else, but the media world thinks they are. Liverpudlians tend to be patronising.
I'm sorry if you have family and friends who are scousers, but with some honourable and lovely exceptions, I think they're utter twats!

I'm not defending them or say it's true as wasn't there today, but I do remember a Sheffield Derby where me and my united mates said we couldn't hear them all game and my pig mates saying they couldn't hear us (might just have been competitive banter)
When the noise doesn't stop for 90+ mins, you're never going to hear the opposition fans, especially when you outnumber them.

Never got why everyone in Sheffield hates Liverpool so much .I always find it friendly when I visit. And that is regularly as it’s my closest city these days.Think its similar to Sheffield in some ways .A big northern city with a working class background.

It’s down to the individual experience probably, my experience is different and polar opposite of yours. I lived in Liverpool for 20 + years, back in Sheffield since 2000

Yes the city got rich from slavery, as far as I’m aware they are possibly the only city In UK who have apologised to African nations for their part, they have a museum based on it and they have put chain links in the city to reference and a reminder of what they did

As for sense of humour, Liverpool has lots of people from all over world who go there to live, especially from uk, I saw and witnessed with my own eyes and ears in workplaces them giving it and taking it, they probably get it worse than anyone about stealing /job centres/ bin dippers and all the rest

And though this means nothing really, when I lived there I was never burgled once, never mugged and never smacked for wearing a United top around where I lived, I have been burgled twice in Sheffield and had some twat pull a knife on me and take a phone and wallet in Sheffield

No idea about the other towns and cities bit but I know from living there etc that there was always a general consensus thats lots leave when younger to go and work elsewhere, was kinda of accepted from my experience

Are they patronising and think they know more about football, possibly ?? I don’t know, is anyone a bit arrogant when you have that much success?? I can tell you from personal experience I have seen with my own eyes reds and blues standing together on road sides when trophies have been paraded on bus celebrations, saw them sitting next to each other in cup finals and mixing together on ground and pubs before derbies etc, not saying I want to go drinking with pigs before games etc or I would go and celebrate them winning a trophy etc

As I said at start each to their own, if you hate em then you hate them, I don’t get it but I’m not here telling you what to think
 
I used to love the Beatles...........until I went to Liverpool. I fucking hate em now, it like a “ Fab Four” Disneyland........so naff.

Fair reply Brownie. I don't actually hate scousers, I find hate quite difficult, just that I've had quite a few negative experiences with them, and not many positive ones. Hillsborough was awful, but I know people who lived there at the time whose experience of the jolly scousers on that day was very different to the official version. Neither should we forget Heysel, or the more recent "high jinks" in Madrid, where I would suggest that if it was our fans (or perhaps Leeds, Millwall or whoever) chucking people into fountains, it would have been less positively received by the media. My dad brainwashed me into thinking that nothing good came out of Leeds (he wasn't into football so it wasn't about that), but over time I think he was wrong and I don't have any problem with Leeds or it's citizens (feel the same way about Manchester too). Sometimes it's just about what we may have experienced and I realise that's not a rational way to look at things. I have met good scousers, unfortunately not many of them! I'll keep trying!!
 
I’m not a massive fan of them it’s very much taboo to criticise their fan base anymore in the media! All this scouse not English thing just adds to it all, it’s a myth how they have the iconic some or more knowledgable than any other fan base!

I think Man Utd’s away support is far more vociferous.
 
The Liverpool fans I know come from Sheffield, Hertfordshire, Kent, and Woking. I met a scouse one through work who was in the office with three other Evertonian scousers who all mocked him for Liverpool being blue and loads of tourists going up there. That was around 2000. I’m sure they were exaggerating a bit but it’s the same with any super successful club, you become a national and international club.

That’s fair enough mate, as I said my intention wasn’t to come across as the bigger man or something similar, every big city is going to have its fair share of dickheads and I’m not naive enough to think that just because I had no issues that was the same for everyone else, even scousers themselves

As for Hillsborough without doubt there probably was some jolly fans who were in pub till to late, or acting up or whatever etc, I’m not sure I have ever heard anyone say they were all Saints etc. I think though part of the problem, just an observation so I could be wrong, to many people were ready to just assume that everything happened as was widely accepted to have happened before the court cases, just because it was scousers and therefore it wouldn’t have happened to their club because they weren’t scousers, if that makes sense

I doubt very much there was a big well supported club who before that day didn’t have quite a few fans who would turn up last minute from pubs trying to get in, or during the 60/70/80 when you had hooliganism quite prevalent back then who were happy to try and jump turnstiles and not pay etc

As for Heysel, yeh completely get why people dislike them because it got clubs banned, what I personally don’t get, again same with Hillsborough, is why 91 other clubs act like it would never have been them if they were there instead of Liverpool. I have seen over my time lots of written stuff in Liverpool about what happened then. What’s often missed by people is that Liverpool fans had spent the entire day, some more than that, in town centre mixing and drinking with Juve fans without a hint of trouble. Unfortunately In the stadium someone started a rumour some kids had been attacked and it all went sour from there

Which leads me onto my own personal gripe at tanked up England fans abroad, most of them probably blame scousers for killing Juve fans yet they go over to somewhere, get tanked up and then get into some trouble, no doubt some will be innocent targets who got attacked or caught up etc but likely quite a lot aren’t, just makes me despair if people ever learn yet they will then blame scousers or millwall as always trouble

Those dickheads in Barcelona, yeh goes back to start of my post, obviously I still keep in touch with a quite a few from there and they were just as pissed off with them as everyone else because they no more than most how it would be viewed. Same with the Man City bus incident

To be fair sometimes I don’t blame them for the scouse not English thing, I’m near 50 and I don’t think I have seen any other city get so much grief or banter thrown at em, and I’m not talking Heysel or Hillsborough here, I’m just talking the old thieves/All on the dole/ Scallies/bin dippers and no doubt all the other stuff as well

I can totally get why some of them see it that way
 
Sheffield and Liverpool are two peas from the same pod. Gritty, Northern Working Class cities that have suffered from industrial decline and favour radical politics. Liverpool football club is largely the same, but it has to some extent been stolen from it's roots by the 70s/80s success; Sky Sports and the global reach of the modern game. In truth, Everton have more in common with the average Scouser, and increasingly will do if they get the new stadium and increased access for poorer, local fans rather than glory hunters with big wallets from further afield.
As for Leeds: a city that has one football club that benefited similarly from the Revie era, but is nothing like as passionate about football as the cities of Sheffield/Liverpool. It's always been divided between egg chasing and football.
 
Definitely some of the quietest away fans since league one days. Strange really but probably hard for them to get excited about a game against a newly promoted team and they played pretty shite for 90 mins which doesn’t help.

I walked behind a couple of teenagers leaving the ground with particularly thick scouse accents and both spent quite a while discussing how good they thought we’d played, how there was no chance that we would be relegated and both of them said that they wanted us to stay up. I like scouse fans now.

I disagree with some of that based on my own experiences but I can't claim to have anything like your knowledge of the city and it's people. Also, I left Sheffield because I didn't particularly like living there so 🤷‍♂️

I think a lit of people's issues, at least around my age (38) is the Liverpool fans who aren't from the town. In Carlton there are about 40 of them, whenever Liverpool are on the telly you see them. And growing up, nothing was more insufferable than a Liverpoolfan from the Manor Top!
 
Well someone`s got to put in a good word for them singing wise... I sit in G block and they definitely weren't silent, I mentioned to the missus that they had the widest range of songs of any visiting fans in my experience, hardly heard the same song twice, they were respectful of the GCB unlike many and as has been mentioned, acoustics in the lower tier are crap and noise doesn't seem to carry, my mate sits mid john street and says he cant hear away fans, add to that a rocking Bramall Lane and its never going to be easy to make yourself heard.
 
Sat above them in the front of the BLUT, as I did against Leicester.

Leicester were much louder and more sustained. Liverpool could hardly be heard until they scored, and then only briefly.
 
I think the “no Liverpool fans in Liverpool “ put around by Evertonians is the same as the claim there’s no Manchester United fans in Manchester put about by their blue neighbours - banter and not really based on much fact.
I for one know lots of scousers and the vast majority are reds not blues
