Good Afternoon All,
The news of our apparent incomings illustrates that finally we’re going about the right way and we’re finally signing the correct calibre of player to get us out of this league.
Let’s be frank, this is short-term planning at its finest, but is it to the stupidity levels that eventually got us relegated from the championship? No.
In 2012 Sheffield Wednesday were promoted with a squad full of League 1 cloggers and lower league footballers, they recruited right and pipped us to the post in what was probably the strongest the league has been since we’ve been down here & they performed when it really mattered whilst we faded into the old lion cage that is the playoffs.
I know we probably had a stronger team that season, but let’s be honest would players with the calibre of Stephen Quinn, Lee Williamson or Matthew Lowton sign for us in our current position?
I think expectations are too high and we’re forgetting that teams above us who historically we’ve been the bigger club, two leagues apart are progressing and have extra incentive to attract these “young, hungry” players I see many pining for.
I can’t understand the negativity here; we’re signing being linked with players who will give us a considerable edge and streetwise knowledge that will win us games we’ve frustratingly not managed to capitalise on in the past.
Of course I’d rather us be signing a better calibre of player, but honestly since we’ve been down here have really gone out and signed proven players at LEAGUE 1 level?
Think we really need to be realistic here and if you are, then I’m sure you’ll feel more optimistic.
Hopefully this is the year.
