Can take defeat, can take playing badly, can even take the odd bad player or two!
What hurts me is that after 40 odd years of going to every cup match at bramall lane, if the club, fans, management and players can all just go through the motions like they did today, that's the end of that.

Agree 100%. I also agree with the opening comment though, despite my vociferousness(?) today on the cup issue, it’s not the end of the world and shouldn’t be allowed to affect our season. It’s just really disappointing how we approached today on and off the pitch.

Sad state of what the fa cup as become in the modern game. I love the fa cup the tradition and think you put out strongest team every round , but most clubs don't think like us older fans anyone and I also think some younger fans are not bothered about cup anymore

You clearly didn't read or take on board Wilders comments op

That utter shower of fucking shit took the piss out of their managers trust and belief in them by giving them the chance to push for a start. Instead they have earned the right to get fucked off out the door.

It proves to the pair of twats that own our club how many players we need to keep a promotion push on track.
Only Coutts and Dowell have a chance to play in our first team again. Every single 1 of the rest were a fucking disgrace.
Wilder knows that and won't fuck about.

I'm 28 so I'm on the younger side I suppose and I think both cups are great. Every season I think let's have a cup run, I look at the squad and think we have enough to go on a run, the further we get the more I want it.

There's something about a cup that's worth the extra games and I'm bitterly disappointed we're out of both, particularly this one.

They need to do something. The FA are fucking useless. Make it worth it. Stop bidding on World Cups and pissing money up the wall and save the FA Cup.

Too late for that I think.

Weve had a full weekend of people overreacting on here, some almost competing with each other to tell others just how outraged they are with everything sufc related, whilst also calling all and sundry a c**t (mostly Madine though)

The big C word being used on here like it's going out of fashion by some. Always thought that a swear word used at the right time adds effect, whilst using it over and over and over again just tells me there is a lack of intelligence involved.

Anyway. I'm off now to be outraged again. Team v Barnet....Bstard....Madine signing...c**t, no funds for permanents... set of cocksnots...work tomorrow....just fuk off....

Some people need to get a grip. We lost a match we should really have won if we had bothered to show the right attitude, and we will probably sign a lad who has been a right dickhead in the past. Not a great weekend I suppose, but tomorrow's a new day. I've already accepted both cos I can't change a damned thing about either.

Just read his comments when got back, it was shower of shite, it's shows that we have a lack of depth, but it's one game not like we had our first 11 out there, and yes bitterly disappointed at 2pm even with that team I would have staked my house we would have beat a team 15th in national League. All them players have a lot of proving to do, or will be out the door in the summer

Agree. I normally hate getting knocked out of the FA Cup whatever the circumstances.

I think I'd be fuming if we were mid table with realistically little to play for now.

We haven't got the time or the money to keep those shithouse that long.
Do you know Billingham?

After some thought Weasel, I agree. I didn't agree with potentially signing the lad who's been a right dickhead in the past, but I also think footballers aren't role models or moral guardians, they're just paid to do a job, and if he can do that for us, fair play! In my job I have to be something of a role model and moral guardian (no, I'm not a vicar!!!) and it's a chuffin ball ache at times! Our football club lost a game of football against a football club we should have beaten. We may sign a player who has said some unpleasant things about our captain, and who has a history of dickheadery! Let's move on, it's not exactly climate change meets cliff-edge Brexit with Trump's finger on the red button is it?

Thank god. Someone with some sense.

That was a shocking game, not sure what else can be said, bad team selection, bad attitude, terrible display of football.

Sadly the cup has lost it's magic. I'm a younger fan but I have some fantastic cup memories; Leeds in 02/03 my favourite example.

I was thinking if cup games were played at the team in the lower division's ground? ((If it's a same division tie then flip a coin) there would likely be a better atmosphere as it would be deemed a bigger game by the lower ranked club, plus they would benefit more from ticket sales etc. I feel a lot of the problem is the flat atmosphere at grrounds and this would solve that.

Nice idea, but gate money is halved between the clubs. Hence lower league teams wanting a glamorous away day. Old Trafford etc, not just to play a big team, but for the cash.

Barnet will have earned far more today, despite the poor gate, than they would with a home tie

Premiership money, and lack of adequate investment in the FA Cup has unfortunately killed it.

Fair enough, but could still address the issue of poor atmosphere at games? Something has to be done, though tbh I feel the deterioration of the cup has started with the top teams who use it as a training exercise for reserves/youth. If they are willing to do that it means they value giving their reserves a game more than staying in the cup - says it all really.

Agree with the sentiments but not sure where you’ve been.

For the last 10 years or clubs in higher leagues have been putting out weak teams. When we drew a non league team 99% of us suspected we’d put out a weak team, this is reflected in the low attendance.

I didn’t go to the match as I knew we’d play the reserves but even our reserves should still beat Barnet.

It’s been muted for several seasons that the FA Cup is dying. Suppose there’s not enough money in it for many clubs compared to other competitions.

IMHO the only thing that was correct yesterday was the team that started the game. In the days leading up to the game the vast majority on here were looking for the first 11 to be rested after a busy and successful xmas period.
The fact that the 11 picked didn't perform wasn't down to tactics, it was a bad day at the office, even the first 11 have had those over the last 2 1/2 years. Other better placed teams than us have had them this weekend, Fulham, Leicester etc. It was also down to Barnet applying themselves to the best of their ability and working damn hard as a team. We've been there and done that as the underdog many times so some praise must go to them. Nobody came on here after we beat West Ham saying it was down to them being shit and not turning up as one example. People knocking the FA cup, the beauty of the cup has always been the david and goliath clashes that have led to cup upsets, Hereford, Wrexham etc Barnet rightly will celebrate this as one of those, we as the slain bigger club need to show some humility and take it on the chin.
The vast majority of our fanbase didn't turn up, either in person or vocally. This isn't me blaming the fans before I get jumped all over. It is just a statement of fact.
It's one game in a long season, yes it is disappointing we are out of the cup. I've enjoyed many a cup night over the last 50+ years but it's not the end of the world. We will definitely lose again before the end of the season if we react as badly after the next defeat god help us.

Oh I've been there, and I've watched as much FA cup as I can and I've seen it being devalued, but that's the first time I felt we actively didn't want to be in it.
So much of what Wilders done in the last 2 and half years has been brilliant because as well as good successful football, we've had the moral high ground in so much of what we've done. He always talks about running around, winning headers and tackles. Can only think of one tackle we won yesterday, we consistently let non-league players walk past us with the ball.

I know it's my expectations that need adjusting, and i would be better served being outraged that an ex manager referred to us as sheffield, than being disappointed at being dicked by a non-league team.
We need to accept is the new reality, we don't want to be in the cup. I just think that's a shame.

Third time by my reckoning. Warnock's teams made no effort to win the Colchester and Swansea games in 2005/6 and 2006/7. The Swansea performance in particular was a disgrace.

Ok, I'll have been drunker in those days!
Let's hope for the same outcome as the first one.

I'm as fucked off with it as you Bill, but I think you are wide of the mark. Clarke, Washington, Stearman, Johnson, Cranie, Moore, plus the two you mentioned will continue to be part of the first team squad, though most of them benchwarmers. Sadly, Freeman way out of form, Bryan doesn't look up to it
