Leon

Can't add anything that hasn't already been said in this thread. He is absolutely immense for us. He never, ever stops running, chasing down, tracking back, hassling defenders, winning the ball in the air...he is simply fucking awesome.

He doesn't even have to score playing like that. Total and utter commitment. He makes us tick.

He's playing like a man possessed.

The amount of running - or sprinting - he gets through is incredible.

I'd love to see the running stats for all the strikers in the division. He'll probably be top. And if you narrowed it down to those over 30 years old, I suspect he'd be top by an absolute country mile.

How the hell has he been such a brilliant signing?

Simple. Wilder bought him. And Lord Wilder had had a word in his shell like to tell him what he wants.

I'd run through a brick wall for Lord Wilder.

He just looks like he's enjoying himself. Long may it continue.

The face we all pulled haha

Awesome performance from Leeoonnnn !
Through out his career he has been accused of been lazy , but despite been as strong as an ox and built like a brick shit house , Leon needs to be loved and an arm around him , wilder knows this , and when us fans shout leeooonnn you can tell it really brings him on , keep shouting his name boys Leeeeooonnnnn !!

Just a brief mention for my man of the match. Other players will get the plaudits but I thought he led the line well all night. Chased lost causes tirelessly, forced errors and was a nuisance on 50-50’s. Great centre forward’s performance.

Are we on first name terms with him now then? Not "Clark" or "Clarke" or "Clarkey" preceded with the word "fuckin" and followed with "Wednesday bastard" ? There's progress indeed! Not referring to you specifically Mr Suffaux, just a few hundred morons that never wanted him to do well because of who he'd played for before. They know who they are - maybe some of them even come on here?

I thought he was superb also btw. I think he's been really good all season tbh and is probably playing the best football of his career. He certainly seems fitter and sharper than at any other time I've seen him.

But he can't play with Sharp y'know? Now MANY folks on here have told us that.

Watched the game with a Wigan fan, lost count of the times he said something along the lines of "like...what...I just don't...how is fucking Leon Clarke playing like that?"

Yep. Gotta say, impressive again last night. Never gave the Leeds CBs a seconds respite. Work rate never a doubt, only slight criticism would be could he be a bit more clinical with final pass, getting strikes off ?

Although that’s a general criticism of quite a few of our players. Sometimes the final ball ain’t that good, often not getting past the first man. Duffy, for all his obvious talents, guilty as charged on this.

Keep it going Leon.

The ball in the build up to billies goal was immense.
I spent the rest of the match raving about that touch. Sublime.

As for general Leon appreciation, I’m ashamed to say that I referred to him as ‘useless pig’ for much of last season. Since his return to full fitness towards the back end of last season he has been fantastic, so Leon I am very sorry. After a blistering end to last season I did defend him when fans of other clubs said he wouldn’t hack it in the Championship saying he’d been scoring for fun and actually looked a good player!

He looks the fittest he's ever been,as do all the team to be fair.
A lot of credit must go to prestidge for keeping the lads in tip top shape.
A great time to be a blade.

He was the Black Flash tonight ... deserves a new nickname ... the Leeds defence completely got the jitters early as every time they got the ball Leon’s shadow materialised and they had no idea how he got there
Only thing missing was a goal and he was a bit unlucky with his finishing but what a performance... my mate who doesn’t watch much football said who the hell is that .. is he English.. we need that passion in the England team ..
no bigger accolade

Absolute class and thats exactly the type of performance i expected from him when we signed him. Less long ball, but using his physicality to rough up defenders. He's looking lean and athletic nowadays.

That really really isn’t very objective CB.

I have been vocal in criticism of Leon. Based ENTIRELY on sub standard performances that have precisely SQUAT to do with his previously employers.

His first 16 or so games for the club, he was not at all good. Not by any measure. It’s a matter of record that those close to him, specifically the gaffer, put this down to niggles. Fair enough. There is a worry he is a bit prone to such niggles, which may impact us going forward.

Now, onto the Billy and Leon “combo”.

Does your obvious delight at being “right” about Leon allow your judgement to be clouded on this specific point ?

Put another way, I continue to have serious doubts about the pair, as a front pair. For the most part they operate as lone wolves. Personally, I don’t think this works for a progressive team like ours. You need a front two to operate in tandem. To have understanding and chemistry.

Our overall quality masks this. IMHO. It hides the lack of cohesion up top, because our overall offensive threat is high. Evidence last night, with so much more in the box action than Leeds had all night. 24 touches against 7.

While it’s working, and points are rolling in, maybe it’s an irrelevance. But longer term, it concerns me. Greatly. Wilder made a big thing about performances dictating results in the aftermath of last night. I whole heartedly agree.

But Wilder has certainly galvanised a journeyman pro and is extracting what we all want. Let’s hope it can continue.

For the record, I’m pleased for Leon. He is contributing positively to our campaign, and judging on Wilders salivating, is probably the first forward player on the team sheet right now.

Keep it up.

Outstanding last night. Man with attitude? can't play with Sharp? Sacked for training ground punch up?

Nah, man of the moment last night but Duffy mom. I honestly thought we had bought another journeyman who would give us very little apart from a few impact of the bench appearances. But, (and I get fed up of repeating this) wilder knew what he was doing and I'm no footy manager!

His work rate, team play, last ditch defending, passion for the team and himself was outstanding last night. Proves you can make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

The slide rule ball for Brooksy makes him an innocent man!

Oh of course. The positives more than outway the only slight criticism.

Form of his life and, for me at the moment, first name on the sheet. Which is high praise indeed, considering there are at least 8 players, maybe more, that could genuinely have fair claim to this.

The first part I can honestly say I was never guilty of (as you say). He had always been a nuisance to us when playing for the opposition and I was thrilled when we signed him. He has gone on to surprise me further by putting in top Championship performances.

I was for a brief moment guilty of saying he couldn’t play with Sharp. In the earlier days of that partnership it didn’t seem to click and they didn’t seem to be linking up that well. As good experienced players do, they became more familiar and learned to play very well as a pair.

The trouble is some bright spark says “they can’t play together” Another expert agrees and suddenly it’s the accepted wisdom. The undertone, of course, was “We don’t want Clarke to play” for some juvenile reason.

One or two of us said it was bollocks at the time.

There was a comment about Leon on Talks**** last night...
Something like...."There must be a few managers wondering why Leon, never did it for them."

Simply answer. Two words...Chris Wilder.
