He's not as fit as he was earlier in the season. Maybe age has caught up with him. Maybe he's burned himself out for the season.

Hero to zero, sums his career up. Garbage today and has been since he got a cushy new deal.

Stated this back at the start of the season. would have a good spell then die of into insignificance. got called a pig in disguise and all that shite.
Not only Clarke. Stevens is dieing a death, Duffy one good game in two Really off the mark yesterday, wrong decisions all day. Missed Basham ( congratulations on the new born). Felt sorry for Fleck, Blackman only two that really put a shift in. Brookes had the touch me and i'll go down syndrome.
So pissed off. got my hotel booked for the playoffs, looks like wasted money. 3 massive game against the harder teams now. Middlesbrough, Millwall And Cardiff.

Been a Blade - for over 40 Years, hopefully for another 40 still. c'mon

It was quite obvious, looking at his body language, that Billy was angry for being taken off. No eye contact or acknowledgement between him and CW as he walked off and brushed past him. Hope this isn’t the beginning of the end for the skipper.

That's exactly how I saw it. But we'd all called that substitution because Billy was achieving very little. (Am I allowed to say that? I'm not saying sell him, he's past it or anything).

Those who constantly call for Clarke to be subbed always use - wrongly - the excuse "Billy was playing better". Not the case again yesterday I'm afraid.

And this, in a nutshell, is where our views differ.

Nice to know only our strikers dont score with every opportunity they get

No wonder we pick on them

Villa went to Bolton and scored with every attempt

Clarke was the worst player on the pitch against Forest

Let’s hope he doesn’t read this thread and think fuck it, if his early form was permanent he wouldn’t be playing for us, hopefully he will have a purple patch till the end of the season.

But all he was bothered about was signing a new contract! He's clearly happier tossing it off here than at Villa on more money.

If you don't get in a position to try to take a chance, as a striker, you aren't actually achieving much.

Logic suggests that is correct. I was listening to the game on Radio Nottingham in the car driving back down south and Brian Laws was the pundit. He 'quipped' that ever since Leon signed his new contract he hadn't scored. He then said...and I paraphrase...that's no surprise to him having worked with him before.

Unfortunately for Leon his reputation precedes him and despite turning his career around with us it' hard to shake these preconceptions

so it's not a bad run, he just doesn't care? Just need to find out what's upset Billy now that he's in a similar position.

The problem is a lack of viable options up front: If Clarke and Sharp aren't firing, who do you play?

Wilson looks selfish and ineffective.
Donaldson looks woefully short of composure.
Evans is obviously a mile away from fitness.

Your only shout is Brooks when he's fit enough to start, but his appearance today proved that he lacks consistency (Like most young players.)

Posted before the start of the season saying that our strikers were the main concern. At the time, pre Donaldson, we were talking Clarke, Sharp, Hanson, Evans, (Brooks was an unknown and on his way to Chesterfield at the time). My main concern was age and a lack of pace.

To be fair, Clarke has been excellent for most of this season, but he's always been one of those players that blow hot and cold, and his capacity for missing a sitter is undoubted, he is the King of Fluffed Chances by far. Always has been, always will be. Sharp has been in and out of the side, you can't fault the lad for his goal-tally, but he's had many games when he's looked ineffective and frankly, past it, and that's cost him his place in the team for a while. But, you take him out of the team and you take out a bloke who is one of the best opportunist strikers in the game, that's the dilemma. Hanson, of course, is history, Evans is struggling to show he can compete at this level - I thought he did ok at Ipswich the other week, but he's a long way off his best.

The facts are, with some younger, fitter, better quality strikers, we'd be safely tucked in the top 6 now, I genuinely believe that. But we aren't, and that's no criticism levelled at anyone, it's just saying it how I see it.

Oh for a couple of strikers like Brian Deane or Jan Age-Fjortoft in this side eh? We'd have ripped up the division by now if we'd got that kind of quality at our disposal.

I'm agreeing with you it has had run...A very bad one ...but many others are going off his history of multiple clubs and what they see as a questionable attitude.

What is indisputable is we need the management team to pull a couple of rabbits out of a hat this summer striker wise!

Yes, but I haven't repeatedly slated Billy when he's had a poor game. Of which he's ad quite a few this season and said like a five year old, "but Billy was better".

Then you have me confused with another 5 year old poster !

He's 33 and has not been good enough for the Championship for the past seven years. It was obvious that he would not be able to keep playing above his ablity. One would have hoped that he at least would be better than he's been since his magic form dipped though.

I think he will struggle to get goals next season.

Basically, every week people come on here to complain that a League 1 striker isn't better than a League 1 striker...

Anyone can tell hat Leon's head sunk after missing the golden chance on Saturday. As a forward myself, obviously at pub level standard, I know that it plays on your mind and if, like Leon, you haven't scored for 8 games then that miss is a massive blow. Leon is a confidence player, like most forwards are and once one goal goes in I'm confident he'll look a yard sharper and will score plenty of goals. We saw it with Billy and most of our fans were saying he's past it and then look what happens!

The problem we have now isn't :Leon's lack of form its the fact that we have no decent back up to give :Leon a rest, like what Billy had. Hopefully the two weeks off will do Leon some good and I still think there isn't a better target man in this league when Leon's on form. He is unplayable when he is on form and lets give him some slack, given he has scored so many vital goals this season.

Has he got worse from Saturday until today?

Just asking.

He is the fourth top scorer in the championship.
He is as good as, if not better than any other striker we have for his work when we don’t have possession.
He holds the ball up and brings others into play better than any other striker on our books.
He may not be our most natural finisher (Billy) but what is it with some people who judge strikers on goals alone? And after Billy’s barren spell and the dogs abuse he got on here before turning it around you’d have thought some people would have learnt a lesson

I’ve heard that he missed that chance on Saturday because although the general terms of his new deal are ‘cushy’ the goal bonus isn’t enough

I don't believe that for one minute, the way he headed that ball away from the net Saturday takes ability.
