Leon Clarke

Thanks for the information Grafikhaus. That confirmed my suspicion and tells it's own story
There's a bit of Tino Asprilla about Clarke isn't there? Not in style but in the fact that as a potential 20 goal striker himself he should be confident in being in the best XI.

Unfortunately best XI individuals doesn't necessarily mean best XI.

I'd say United are at fault more than him. His goals per minute ratio is not at all bad with us but as a starter we don't seem to know how to get the best from him. It's hardly his fault his partner doesn't do anything to complement his game. Clarke might be better with Lavery or Chapman to be fair.

Sharp is fine for this season but it would be nice if we could look beyond him in January. If we did go up then for the ambition Wilder and the club should have, we need a player who contributes on days he doesn't score and for Billy to be that useful guy from the bench who might nick something, not the main man.

Rightly or wrongly I liken our current mentality to Keegan's Newcastle, with the attacking spirit. Not sure I can see any Tino in Leon though? o_O

I meant Asprilla was a very good player but he just upset the balance of the team. Everything pointed to him being a good acquisition, and he did have his moments but accommodating him probably contributed to Newcastle not winning the title.

Is a donkey.

is immobile

Is lazy

Cannot play with sharp

Does more harm than good

Flicks on to no-one

You've not mentioned the penalty he didn't take, remember? The one rolled into the keepers hands? I think he's responsible for that as well.

Wasn't Clarke playing injured for most of games he played .

Clarke is a decent striker. His career stats show it. BUT he and Billy have zero understanding of each other. I very much doubt that they could develop one. If Billy is playing, then use Done/Chapman. I've not seen enough of Clarke with anyone else to really say who he would gel with.

OK with you now. :)

No. He's started six games - L, D, L, L, D, L.

(Sub. appearances in yellow).

More telling to me are the 7 games in which Jake Wright didn't feature: L, D, L, L, D, W, L. The win was a scrappy 1-0 against Bristol Rovers. He went off at half time against Charlton and we conceded without him then too.

Didn't know he's been at 17 clubs.........seems reyt popular!

He didn't look lazy on Tuesday in the first half when he sprinted back from the top of the pitch to the half way line, put in a cracking slide tackle and nicked the ball back.

I think it was difficult for everyone Tuesday night...Walsall put everyone behind the ball and sat deep,it was so congested in there,a lot of the crosses were poor, and the Ref was shocking...can't blame Clarke,he was very good for half an hour at Chesterfield playing with Sharp, although a lot more space...I would like to see him alongside Done or Lavery,or maybe even Chapman, but who drops their leading scorer...The one thing I would do is take Billy off Penalties.

At least half this bloody forum would drop him like a shot!

The lad can't win. He comes back to his boyhood club to try and get us up but that's not good enough for some.

I really hope he never comes on here otherwise he would think we are a right bunch of twats.

After the Grimsby match pre-season he was even slagged off for scoring. Apparently should've laid it off to that prick McNulty instead and was "selfish".

This is the sort of cuntitude that defines that approach of much of this forum towards Billy, and it's never gone away.

have we lost a game where he came off the bench...

Lies, damn lies etc. ;) Games where Clarke didn't figure: W, D, W, D, W, W, D, W, W.

Plenty of Wendy fans think Forestieri should be dropped/sold. So this forum isn't the only haven for know-nowts!

I think part of the problem is that supporters forget players are people, not robots. A lot of the comments I read about dropping this player or that player seem to come from people with no understanding of people management, who think you can manage football players like you can people who work for Sports Direct; treat them like shit but demand some kind of loyalty and dedication.
Those days are long gone.
