Good for him. I like the stories about players who keep going and going until they just can’t play any longer. It shows they still love the game.

It’s one of the things I wonder about what Billy does next - does he keep playing, but at a lower level, or does he make the move into coaching (or something else)?

Personally, I’d love to see him sign on another year and put out on loan to league 1, where he can be a star again and see whether he wants to carry on doing that in the lower leagues until he drops, or come back to us to work on coaching.

I suspect he is very near his birthplace now with this move!

It's funny, I never really thought Clarke was a big football lover. I wouldn't have expected this of him.

I stand by my opinion that he, at his (very) brief peak, was the best centre forward I've seen at the Lane.
Seemed to have everything, shame he couldn't keep it going.

He was absolutely unplayable in November of 2017. If he'd played like that over the course of his career he'd be putting Haaland to shame.

Okay, maybe that's a bit of a stretch... but he did score 9 in 4.

That run of form he had in our first championship season, never seen a striker like it at BL, everything he did came off.

Hull at home was probably the best individual performance I've seen of any Blades player in my lifetime.

He was absolutely phenomenal. Movement, touch, power, pace, finishing... It was like one of Europe's best clubs had leant us a striker for the afternoon. Different gravy.

This is the beauty of footy as a game.
I took part in a tournament in Tennessee last year and there was an over-75 men's division and over-70 ladies.
They were still bombing around the field like Sander too.

You clearly never saw Mick Jones or Brian Deane play for us. Both were England centre forwards and light years ahead of Clarke. Having said that I liked LC and loved him when he scored our fourth at Hillsborough. 😁

Another shit signing, waste of money by Chris Wilder

Brilliant signing and he scored against the oink oink brigade!

Wish him all the best.

What a fucking goal that 2nd one was at the sty! That game still gives me goosebumps!

Considering he would be wearing gloves season long I wonder what get up he'd have on in more exposed to the elements non league grounds mid winter 🤣

Always had a bit of a sulky reputation so surprised he's still willing but good on him. My local club had a few ex pros in their late 30s still run out for them and even at that age the quality they have above most non league players 20 years younger is noticeable and these were players who didn't have as good a run as Clarke!

For those 3-5 games?

Before my time. I was born in 1990.

For those 3-5 games?

Yes. I'm not proclaiming him to have given us the most. Only that, in that brief spell he reached performance heights I'd not seen before and haven't since.
James Beattie was brilliant at times, Rob Hulse had some great games for us, Sharp, Ched Evans... but none as good as Clarke for that spell.

Think it was more like half a season wasn't it?

Me and my mate regularly talk about that game.

Very underrated.

You'll look back and how many players in the Championship have games they scored 4 in? How many can match 9 in 4?

It must be very few.
