Is he twice the player that Montgomery is?

"Ten times the player" is a phrase I would be happy with in this case.

I think the whole sorry mess is a reflection of us completely losing our way, as a club, in the last two years. This summer gone was a very depressing time. Let's hope the bottom has been (or is very close to) reached and we can start to bounce back, on the field, in the stands and in the boardroom.

The big thing is will Adams be given the wages to spend elsewhere

Cashflow shortfall £5.3 Million, just the kind of Player out I was looking for to shore up the finances, 2 or 3 more going out will help things along nicely.

And Britton offered 10 times what Monty did, did he? I've no doubt he was more talented, but there's only so much use playing the ball sideways or being bulldozed by someone twice your height can be.

They're different players but I think part of the problem is that we were expecting Britton to be the creative box to box midfielder and that's quite clearly not his game. Monty will always do what Monty does, Britton failed to deliver, not because of his talent but because he was expected to play a role which wasn't his best.

If we'd played Britton behind or alongside Willo and Reid I think we would have seen the real player.

I heard that his best stuff for Swansea was played on the right of midfield. I'm not sure if that's accurate though, I didn't see much of him before we signed him I must say.

And I saw bugger all after we did ;)

I didn't say that. He is a good player and as such would have been on higher wages than either of the two you mention. Is he twice the player that Montgomery is?

At least. Then again, so am I. He isn't on twice Montgomery's ridiculous wage either!

Monty is one of our highest earners - correct Pinchy. Has to be. Birchy made a great big deal about keeping him ahead of Leeds. We are building for the future around Monty and you should be very, very grateful to the clappers and Trevor for that being so.

I'd also like to congratulate Leon for realising his career was in real danger of being obliterated by the disgraceful poverty of talent alongside him and for getting out whilst he could. Dreadful mistake signing for us in the first place as a proper footballer but I suppose wedge talks and he was blinded by it. If only he had asked me first.

We dont require Britton's services at this stage. We need fighters and scrappers, not sideway passing, non scoring 4"10, 6 stone weaklings.

Shit, you've just described half our side.

Yes. A couple of non-footballing, non-scoring, ball-wasting, penalty-conceding, shadow-chasing, aimless-flicking, hot potato-hoofing, resource-draining numpties are just what we need. They've done really well so far. Why change it? We are Sheffield United you know.

Please, please, someone tell Pembo to stop all this football nonsense. It will only end in tears.

We  Hoofing!

Leon Brittan has been a huge disappointment. Too lightweight, lacked the killer ball and i just don't think he was either good enough, or what we wanted in the long run.

A very disappointing signing for us, and a good move shifting him off the wage bill.

Micky's comments on the official site suggests that Britton was not going to be a player he would change the formation of a side for, and based on this season he's right IMHO. It's been stated by him that Micky wants a 4-4-2, he's also said that when he's played that so far Britton hasn't played. So it's a good move all round and hopefully frees up some money to get a replacement who can play that system. That doesn't mean hoofers only fit the bill, so let's see what he can sort out in these next few days.

Didn't have the stomach for it. Missing his bird in Swansea. Doesn't fit into Adams plans.

I've said quite a lon this already, so I'm going to shut up. I'll make my final judgement at the end of January. If Adams is right (a player leaving is an opportunity) then we should bring in a player that adds more value than Britton then I will not have any qualms. It could be a midfielder or defender.

The little bottler! Well said Ollie.

He could be the best passing footballer in the world, but if he doesn't like Sheffield, United or can't settle then I'm happy to let him go.

No stomach for the fight? I'll happily see the back of a bottler.

We need both but certainly a footballing CM to play alongside Willo. We then have cover in the shape of McAllister and the promising Harriott.

I love this!! Did you make it?

Can't help but think losing Britton will be something we look back i=on in a years time when we are kicking the ball up high and hoping for a big brute to knock it down or do something with it, that yet again, we had the chance to change but didn't.

But I am more than willing to wait and see what we bring in to replace him, maybe even the new Irish lad who plays CM. He's supposed to be creative. Which is what we have wanted for years isn't it? Harriott has been impressing as well hasn't he?

Here's to hoping!!

But you have made the point in your post. If players want to leave you can't make them stay, it just isn't good for the team.

Kenny, Killa and Beattie all wanted big pay rises. However I don't think money is the issue with Britton he wants to go back south.

Go west surely?
