Roman Bednar given a backdated 3 month ban for cocaine possession. Very different case obviously but hope Paddy is treated with the same leniency next week.

It will boil down to intent I'd have thought - if the FA buys the excuse that it was an accident I'd have thought there'll be a short ban but if they think he was trying to geta competetive edge then it'll be at least a year.

Does anyone know if this is likely to be all sorted next week or whether it'll be a drawn out process?

I'd like to see Bunn being given a chance - not that I want a longish ban for Paddy, or owt!

Actually, Paddy's a daft sod for doing what he did, trouble is, it could damage his career quite badly, not because of the "drugs" but simply because he could drop out of the frame.

One is a charge for taking a banned recreational substance (Bednar) whilst the other is a charge for taking a banned performance inhancing substance (Kenny). Legally Bednar could be charged and Kenny never would be, but in the professional sports sector, governing bodies tend to be much harsher on enhancer substances above recreational ones!

So the Bednar ruling may not be a pointer into how Kenny is judged!

I'd love to see Paddy back soon, but failing that we need to get Bunn tied down til at least Christmas. I don't have much faith in Bennet or Haber long-term

Don't forget that the FA kinda don't like us because of the whole Carlos Tevez thing. They'l throw the book at us!

Do they? The PL probably wish we'd go away, but wasn't it an FA arbitration panel which gave us our positive verdict?

Bednar was a strange 'punishment'. Three month ban, back dated to 17 May when it happened. So, he's missed one league and one cup game! hardly a punishment!

Taking cocaine and cannabis isn't going to positively affect his game though, is it? It's a criminal matter, punishable by law. Taking performance enhancing drugs, on the other hand - such as ephedrine, just to pluck an example out of thin air - is going to hopefully enhance your game, and is not a criminal matter in most cases.

Why punish a player for taking drugs if they're going to have no positive bearing on his performance? It's ridiculous. Yes, clubs should punish players, as they're in dereliction of their duty if they take substances that are going to adversely affect their game, but what business is it of the FA?

Now cheating, on the other hand - that's a different kettle of fish. If Paddy had epehdrine in his system, and he can't prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was accidental, he should have the book thrown at him. We can't excuse cheating because it's one of our own when we condemn it when it's someone else.

And if it was an accident, he's a bloody idiot and the club should severely punish him.

Cocaine turns you into a gibbering arsehole who thinks you're doing amazing things when in reality you're just grinding your teeth and being a wanker. Add to this the fact that when you come down you're a teeth-chattering, black-eyed bag of spazzy nerves and I don't think anyone could say it was really a proper performance-enhacing drug.

Hahaha... is that straight out of the BMJ Dr Matth? :D

Absolutely!

Although I must say I'm not a real doctor. An amateur gynaeocologist, perhaps.

Is it just me who thinks the silver lining to all this is it might for the clubs hand a get a better keeper in than Paddy? He has made to many mistakes on and off the field for me.
This lad Bunn could be the answer? Saturday may tell. Anybody any idea what Blackburn would want for him?

paddy’s a great shot stopper and I’m happy to stick with him, nice guy to talk to too.
but id like him to command his area more and collect the ball more on crosses and corners.
but if the ruling comes back with a years ban suggesting it was more than cough mixture, its time to show him the door this is a family club with a great academy what sort of message dose this send to the kids.
i like the look of bunn so far could be the new improved number one

I agree he's a good shot stopper, but his all round decision making is poor, and he's prone to moments of madness as well. I do think he'll be out for at least a season though, so we need another answer if we can't keep Bunn for longer than a month (or if he doen't turn out that good).

cocaine gives you confidence and an edge to your whole state of mind....so in a way it could enhance your game. Cannabis hell no.

Even if this was the case (which whilst it has some 'positive' effects, it also has a lot of adverse effects) Bednar only had possesion of the drug and didn't actually fail a drugs test.

It's frustrating that this problem has dragged on for so long - why should it take more than a few days to come to a decision?

My hearts says he didn't cheat deliberately, but my brains says he'll probably get a ban anyway.

[pedant]Taking cocaine isn't illegal - only possession is.[/pedant]
