When I first started watching United, he was instrumental in ensuring promotion to Division One in 1961. He scored several goals in the last few matches of the season. Always seemed to be in control of the situation on the wing with measured crosses with the added bonus of some key goals.

It turned out to be a master stroke of a signing from John Harris.

He was in the team when I first started watching the Blades. He may have stayed in the first team for a while longer if we didn't have a young kid ready to take over and make that right wing his own for many years.

Although John Docherty did wear the number 7 shirt in a run or two in the mid 1960s
