Until the last year! Always HATE the PIGS with a passion, but seeing recent comments from Leeds scum fans about attendances and club size compared to Blades it's made me get a real hate haha! How can they go on about attendances when there's facts giving the reason why? Weirdos. Us and pigs reach about 50k in a smaller city FFS

CITY POPULATION;
Leeds – 751,485
Sheffield – 552,698

AVERAGE HOME ATTENDANCES 2018/19
Leeds United - (33,834)
Sheffield United - (26,177)
Sheffield PIGS - (24,429)

Don't know where you've got your population numbers from but it doesn't look right, i always thought Sheffield was fifth behind London, B'rum, Manchester and Liverpool.

As the following link shows, it’s very hard to define the list of biggest cities as it depends on where you set the boundaries and which measure you use.

There Is an argument that Sheffield is the third biggest city in England as it is the third largest individual local authority in terms of population behind Birmingham and Leeds, but I don’t think that would have much credibility as it’s missing a fairly major city.

The city of Manchester only has a population of around 450,000 .

Greater Manchester is much higher than that , but that's because it includes other municipalities which are towns or cities ( Salford ) in their own right - the equivalent of Sheffield including Rotherham , Barnsley , Chesterfield and even Doncaster in it's figures .

Tell him to go and watch the Leeds "Rhinos" (ra ra ra). At least they're in the top division.

I thought Sheffield is bigger in area but Leeds bigger in population.

I saw something a few years back showing how much Leeds population had grown.

Surely the more relevant point is that Sheffield football fans have 2 teams to choose from?

When I worked/lived there, I had this debate many times with Leeds fans. Their excuse was that Rugby is just as big in the region so they’re not a one-club City, as the other is Leeds Rhinos. Make of that what you will. I laughed out loud every time.

Great argument if nobody who goes to the football, goes and watches rugby and vice versa. Of course, the majority will support both.

The argument about the size of our respective cities will continue, but the idea that the pigs' average home attendance is 24,429 is laughable. Like everything that comes out of S6, it's an utter lie.

Back to Leeds, and I've hated them with a vengeance since the Revie days in the '70's. Nothing to do with 'local rivalry', crowds or that they nick our best players. Neither is it because they've undoubtedly had greater success than us over the last 50 years. Nowt to do with the bias of Calendar, Look Leeds or that fuckwit Colin Murray (blame our Wednesday-centric 'politicians Betts, Blunkett, Ashton and Hattersley for allowing Sheffield to be left trailing in Leeds' wake back then). In fact, if this season is curtailed, it would only be fair if Leeds (and WBA) were promoted.

Leeds 'fans' are a different breed - self righteous, violent and usually drunk. Like Wednesday fans, they only associate with like-minded morons so have grown up with some kind of superiority complex.

Personally, I call it 'The Leeds (or Wednesday. Or Millwall) Effect'. Are all Leeds fans cunts? No. But enough of them are for me to fucking hate them.

In 2019 the population if Sheffield was 715k and Leeds 809k, so you were pretty close 😉

I think the 715k figure is for the continuous urban area, which includes Rotherham. I'm sure Leeds urban area is bigger than 809k.

Leeds have never really bothered me. I know in the past they’ve nicked our best players but other than that I’ve never given them a second thought.

It was great to beat them to promotion though, especially after seeing that video of them celebrating in the pub garden when they thought we’d blown it.

Couldn’t care less whose the bigger club, but while we’re in the Premier League and they‘re not it is us.

I wouldn’t mind them coming up either. In fact I kind of hope they do. Big club, attractive opposition.

Plus I like the idea of the pigs looking up at us and Leeds, their two most hated rivals, lording it over them in the Premier League while the only thing they can look forward to is constant relegation battles and lower league football.

If you lived in North Yorkshire you'd hate them.

Probably so but I rarely come across any Leeds fans. Out of sight out of mind.

I just don’t see the rivalry the same as I would if they shared the same city. That’s why I always think Newcastle/ Sunderland, Norwich/Ipswich just can’t have the same intense hatred that we do in Sheffield.

Leeds to me is a slightly bigger rivalry than any local club but a far more attractive match.

582,506 is the figure for Sheffield from the Coronavirus page, whereas Leeds is 789,194!

Which seems strange as a few years ago [maybe 30 actually] Sheffield's population was bigger according to Calendar! - So must be right!

I think where Leeds come into there own is the away following, no one can deny they’re impressive. They’d sell out 4k anywhere in the country on a Tuesday night in December in any league no matter their league position.

But I agree their home attendance is not all that for a one club city that also has a huge surrounding area with no clubs in top 3 divisionlike WF, YO, BD HX

A nothing club from its formation in 1919 to 1960. We'd been one of the top Clubs in the country by the time they were thought of winning the league, 3 FA Cups and the Champions of Great Britain trophy.

Fast forward to 1961 when Weeds scum employed what was to be one of the most hated Managers in English football Don brown paper bag Revie. For the next 13 years he employed anti football tactics with his team despised for its gamesmanship. He want on to rip off the whole country when he did his shady deal with the Arabs and left England FC in the shit.

Cloughie was right they won most of their trophies by cheating. They hated hearing the truth and made sure they got rid of him in 44 days. He went on to become one the finest managers in English football.

Bremner, Hunter,Giles and co would have no problem with seriously injuring a player to make sure they won. In a game against Cloughs Derby County they put two or three of their players out of the game deliberately to make sure they were weakened them for an up and coming European tie. Fans all around the country celebrated during this time when Weeds kept missing out on trophies in finals and coming second in the League hence the creation of the chant "We all fucking hate Leeds".

As for their self entitled fans who came out of the woodwork in the 60's its laughable that they see their biggest rivals as Man United. A club in terms of stature tradition and history that far outweigh anything Weeds have ever done. Most Reds find this hilarious.

You had to be there to experience it in the 60s and 70s to understand the depth of hatred for this Club by Blades. Weak SUFC Board's constantly caving in to let Jones, Currie, Sabella, Hamson, Edwards and eventually Deane go to them only added to the angst.

In the 80's their scummy racist fans began to excel in violence off the field when their team became crap. They may have taken the Kop at 5 o'clock in the 70's but Blades fans were having none of it thereafter hence a number of battles off the pitch.

The biggest humiliation for them was when Warnock got us promoted in 2006/7 and they failed at Wembley and we went next season and took Hulse and Killgallon off them.

In recent times due to a long period out of the top flight their fans seem to have become more humble towards the Blades as some have recognised the work that CW has done. Make no mistake if they get back into the top flight the media's love in with us will disappear as they move onto cover the whites from Yorkshire with hardly a second thought for that team of triers from Sheffield.

Pigs have always been our rivals but lets not forget the second class citizen we are deemed to be when Weeds are doing well. We are top dog In Yorkshire at the moment long may it continue.
