He's available on a free isn't he? He's got a few suitors.

*Edit: Millwall have the option of a 12mth extension.

Heard today we are signing him in the summer.

Fair enough H, but that still indicates which bucket we are dipping into next season. Is Lee Gregory really a step up?

I am/was hopeful that we were to move up a notch, but perhaps the tussle at the top means there's little chance of that happening

Not sure he is any better than what we have at the top of the field. As well as Morison and Gregory have done - they are not better than Sharp/Clarke really.

We need 2 new strikers next season. I have a feeling Billy may move on - just a hunch - he certainly is not a regular anymore and will play less next season. Donaldson will depart. Lavery and Ched are still under contract but also may leave - both clearly not good enough at this level. So we will need 2; possibly 3 new strikers. Trouble is the good ones cost a lot.

Not for me. As said by many, we need some pace up front as sometimes our build ups are slow which gives the defenders more time to deal with it.

If we want another striker that moves as quick as a bag of sand then sign him up.

Without wanting to pronounce myself as ITK but I would have heard if that was true. The only thing I have heard is that he’s hoping to move from Millwall in the summer and that he’d love to play for us. Nothing to suggest we’re interested.

I'd rather not, he doesn't offer much more (if anything) more than Sharp or Clarke.

I would hope we sign a couple of forwards- if we're skint the loan market may be an option, as it's pace we need.

Agree.

Was discussing the game with a mate, fair enough, it's very difficult to break a side down that sits back and defends, but you need movement. We're way too static, everyone stood still waiting for the ball. So easy to defend against.

We said at half time, Duffy is the only guy that can go past a player and force the shape of the oppo to change... It nearly worked.

Brooks is the other player - I was dissapointed he came off.

Never got in the game again really. Millwall proper 'old manned' us and were pretty cynical.

Steve Morrisson...I just don't get him, never looks like a footballer, but he's bloody crafty and can certainly dominate in the air.

I seem to be in the minority but I'd like to see Gregory join in the summer - not sure how many opportunities Sharp will get next season and imho Gregory would be a suitable replacement.

That said, if Donaldson, Lavery, Hanson and Evans leave (perm or loan), additional signings will be required - another big one and (possibly most importantly) a quick, mobile one.

Exactly, if he came in, it would all depend on who he was replacing. I'd be more than happy if he was a match day squad player, less so if he was seen as our main striker. He's 30 in August and I think he's on 20 goals in 80 championship games for Millwall, over two periods. He would represent the type of slightly younger player that improves on what we've got at a price/cost that we should be able to afford. He's a local lad, United supporter and more than likely fits Paul Mitchell's 'attitude, ability & consistency' test.

Agree, Gregory would be a reasonable squad player especially as we will need a few strikers as Clayton and Ched are not good enough. But we need to invest in a quality partner for Leon. Still think Billy can do a good job next season in the squad

I think Billy with have a sit down with CW at the end of the season & a chat with his family and discuss what's best for all parties. I think he's under contract until 2019, and he's probably got enough left in the tank to play until 2020, possibly 2021 depending on his desire. Where, for how many games and in what role would be the question.

Its a no from me, not much if anything of a step up from what we have already.
Rather have Morison.

Signing Gregory as a squad player might not be too bad tbh but whilst I appreciate we're not flush, it would suggest we're unlikely to be going that little step further next season.

A 30 year old with a goal scoring record no better, and probably worse, than what we have isn't a step in the right direction imho.

Blade and local lad or not.

I was more underwhelmed at the thought that that's where our aspirations and budgets lie rather than Gregory's age and ability.

However if that's where we are, and risking the wrath of the Sharpettes, he'd be a decent replacement for Billy. :0

Based on yesterday's game, I'd sign Steve Morrison as well.

I thought we struggled to cope with the physicality of their forward line, but they coped better against ours !

As I mentioned previously he's scored 20 in 80 championship games & 40 in 80 L1 games. As a comparison, Ched Evans has scored 23 goals in 103 championship games and 34 goals in 61 L1 games. Gregory at 29, is a few months older and has played at least 40 games a season for the last seven seasons. He is durable and is a competent forward at this level, possibly available on a free and would be an improvement if he replaced either Evans/Donaldson/Hanson. Admittedly, he doesn't set my pulse racing, but we have to be pragmatic. If he was brought in as part of the match day squad, I would be happy, if was brought in as star striker, I would be livid (well, miffed).

According to the press, he has been scouted this season by Derby, Cardiff, Wednesday, Leeds, Sunderland & us, which shows he is seen as being able to offer something at this level by other teams.

I'm not saying he's crap, I just don't see how he'd improve us based on where we've just fallen short this season.

If we play the same system then he'll play the Clarke or Sharp role in all probability.

Personally I want some real pace in the team because one thing that has frustrated me greatly this season, and was evident again yesterday, is the amount of times we get to byline in wider areas and there's absolutely no one in the box.

Endless balls flashed across the 6 yard box this season with no player anywhere near, whilst we have people queuing up on the edge of the box.

Why would Gregory leave a Premier League club to drop back to the Championship?
