Disappointing result today (not performance), but I thought Lee Evans was outstanding today. Kept trying to drive us forward, and the ball in for our goal was beckhamesque. Really don't think we've seen the best of him yet either. Next season he could be a star. Him, Fleck and Coutts would be some midfield!!!

Dare I say it, another game where we missed Coutts.

We had the possession but consistently passed it sideways or aimlessly forward.

You're right. Evans giving it to Coutts & Fleck is one of the things I'm really looking forward to next year.

It May be Evans, Coutts and Duffy.

Could Be a real fight to keep hold of Fleck.

That’s my worry for the summer, keeping hold of players and possibly Wilder.

It would be nice to think we will be building by adding more quality but I fear the worst to be honest.

He had a good game.

He's already worth more than what we paid for him.

Signing him, Leonard and Lundstram for about 700k each is a good lesson in how to recruit. Collectively, there's no way they'll ultimately be worth less than the total fees we spent on them.

Rather avoiding the elephant in the room with Evans' performance aren't we?

I would like to think that all our quality players will like the idea of giving it another yeAr with Wilder in the hope that as a group they could make it happen. They all owe Wilder as he brought them from relative obscurity and as we all know some funds to bring in the 3/4 quality players will definitely make us into a v good team.
lee Evans is getting better, just has to stop giving the ball away in dangerous positions, but as Wilder says we have some good Young players who are still learning and he can get better.

The question though does have to be asked of why we spent so much time and obvious money £400k x2 to bring in Leonard and Holmes. Squad depth yes but first team quality ??

Nah, I think the extra poundage from his diet of Irn Bru snd deep fried mars bars will put many off....

No manager gets every signing right. For my money Wilder has far and away the best hit rate for signings of any manager I’ve ever known at t’Lane.

Leonard needs to work on the technical side of his game, but I see plenty of upside in him. Think he could make a top drawer RCB. With a bit of time, I think he’ll get there.

Christ, if we’re going to have another Saturday night selling the family silver, I’m going to the fucking pub....

Great again today. Looks like a tidy addition.

I envisage Evans taking over from Coutts if anything. I can't see him coming back from that injury in a hurry, especially at this stage of his career. There's also the mental readiness that needs to be considered too. Hope I'm wrong but lets be realistic and not expect him to put his boots on at the start of next season and think he'll pick up where he left off.

He’s been the one signing from the underwhelming January window to show any promise, two quality goals in midweek and a MOTM performance today. (Not impressed with the dive though)

Leonard is still reasonably young but needs to have an impressive pre season, Holmes looks like a waste of a signing and a wage and Wilson is everything I hate about young players at big Premier Leagu clubs who think they are Billy big bollocks.

Leonard can still come good but Holmes looks like a waste and I think it's now safe to say we've had an absolute shocker with Wilson - he can't even make the squad FFS. Making him our only striker signing given the position we were in is piss poor. Never a convincing one in the first place and certainly not now.

That's my worry too, especially considering how long it took him mentally to overcome his busted knee. It clearly made him nervous and reluctant to get stuck in on the pitch. Many mistook it for laziness or halfheartedness at the time.
Let's hope the old demons don't come back. Lots of work for the sports psych team to do, and I am sure they are already all over it.

Why, not like he's been given much of a chance so far??

Exactly - he's had plenty of chances to be selected but Wilder hasn't. And Holmes isn't going to get any better now, and Wilder (fingers crossed) isn't going anywhere. He's got quality so it wouldn't shock me if he proved a worthwhile signing but as of now it's been a mistake.

Agree but they won't shoot us to the Prem.

Your absolutely right, anyone that thinks Coutts will slip his boots on and be back to how he was is dreaming. If he does then he’s a fucking legend, but took him a few years to get over a knee injury. Snapped leg, different ball game.

Evans was very good today I thought and a clear MOTM in an otherwise average performance (7s ish) from everyone else

Am I the only one who thinks Evans is average?

No.

Can’t play Evans and Lundstrum together for me. They’re too similar and the play ALWAYS slows down when it reaches either of them. They both always look for the sideways pass. The whole of the first half our play was so slow and predictable and I think the main reason was down to these two slowing everything down. The one touch passing of Coutts-Fleck-Duffy that we saw in the first few months of the season feels a distant memory now ☹️

When we signed Holmes we still mainly played a 3-4-1-2 with Duffy in the hole and needed cover as Carruthers was leaving.

Had we not started playing a flat 3 in the middle he'd probably have started more games whilst Duffy was out.

He's 'bog-standard for Championship football at the moment. His vision is poor and he makes too many mistakes with his short passing game (as does Lunny) to be considered a good player. Especially playing as 'last man' in front of the back three.
However, next season is another year in his education and we all know the difference 'another year and pre-season' made with Coutts so I won't be ruling him out just yet. His two goals against Boro were truly outstanding so he definitely has a natural talent.
Let's judge him next season, would be my suggestion.

I agree pal. Don' think we'e seen the best of him. He' been ok but that' it.

Evans will continue to get better and will be a star next season. Coutts.........well I hope I'm wrong but it's going to take some time for him to get back to where he was and I really hope the fans don't expect too much too soon.

Broken legs are usually more straightforward to recover from than serious knee injuries.
