Easy solution. Put up greenscreen (or more likely blue/red screen) ad boards around the pitch. We don't have to look at ugly flashing nonsense and sky can replace them with whatever ads they want for the tv viewership

ITV did something like this for an England match 4 or 5 years ago, I supposed it was so they could have adverts for products available in England on ITV and adverts for products available in our opposition's country on their broadcaster.

Anyway the effect on screen was terrible, black smudged edges round every player outlined against the adverts, chunks of player's bodies missing (think Dr. Who special effects from the early 1970s). Overall it was awful and very distracting, thankfully I don't think they ever did it again. (or did they improve the technology and I never even realised?)

Interesting... i was joking, didn't know someone had actually tried this!

We should probably just stick with what we have i guess.

A mention for the hideous painted adverts for Royal Bank of Scotland on the pitches in the Rugby Union Internationals .... a bankrupt bank that can't afford the advertising space cocks-up the paint so it coats all the England players' shirts just like it cocks up its own business affairs.

Unluckily I bank with them, Luckily I can't be arsed watching much of Rugby Union International matches.
