Could be worse, it could have been away.
What a wank away trip that would be?

Side point - What's Slavs attitude to the cups been in his English football history? Go out to win every game or wholesale changes?

First time i went to Carlisle I think Martin peters was the manager we were going up on the train which was delayed because of a tree on the track and we got there at half time I think we lost 1-0

We lost 1-0 in 1979-80 season. Peters joined us in summer 1980 and scored in his Blades debut in our season opener 3-0 win. He became our manager in January 1981

Carlisle just reminds me of poor Joe Ironside aged 17 or whatever playing upfront on his own & having the back 4 in our own half for a last minute corner.

How come we are the only premier league team of last season having to play in the first round? West Brom and Fulham don’t join until round 2

Well atleast it's one thing we have in common with Wednesday, we will both be playing Carlisle United this season......😂

I was living and working in Kent in summer 1980 and drove to Carlisle for that 3-0 win. I rang my Dad from Charnock Richard services on the way back to tell him we were going up. He couldn’t believe I’d driven all that way and said “son, what have I done to you?”, a phrase I use regularly with my two to this day.

I was also spectacularly wrong in my assessment of our prospects that season and haven’t improved much in 40 years 🙂

I would have preferred it.to be away. Its an away ground I haven't been to before.

Ball breaker of a trip done it a few times
Although a 3-0 first game of the season win does stand out

Its only 3 hrs driving time. Beter than Torquay surely or Cripple Palace?

For me 2 hours (a home game :) )

It just seems longer after getting beaten 1-0 and it’s pissing rain
Plymouth away or Newport after a shit display and well beaten are long trips
Takes me less than 2 hours from Dublin airport to midland station once I time it right

What sort of cost is that? Pressume to Manc Airport?

Depends mate if you pick when Manc teams arent playing , on a Saturday it’s cheap enough it can be as low as €40 return
A taxi from my house to Dublin airport is €45 as a comparison
Then straight up for train £28 return into Midland
But flown into Donnie , East Midlands but prefer Manchester airport more choice in and out

A challenger for worst Blades performance I’ve ever seen.

Did you know, the last time we played Carlisle United (1-0 win in March 2014), Jordan Pickford was in goal for them.
Incidentally, two more England Euro 2020 squad members also played in that game, Harry Maguire and Connor Coady.
Shows that even the most uninspiring game can have historical significance

Wonder if the tickets will be £40 for this one?

Crab sticks don’t actually contain any crab. And from 1993, manufactures have been legally obliged to label them ‘crab flavoured sticks’. Another one of those same time tomorrow.

I imagine company strategy will render the cups utterly insignificant unless/until we fall out of promotion contention.
