League 1 Opening Three Games

Very early days yet, but of the three games I have been to (I thankfully missed the Gillingham debacle), it has been encouraging to see the improvement in performance from game to game.

Against Morecambe in the cup, we looked vulnerable at the back and were often pedestrian up front, though there were signs of potential with some of the passing moves. Against Chesterfield there was a dramatic improvement in the defence and last night some of the attacking play was fantastic.

Given how back the Gillingham game was, it is excellent to see that we have our second best return from the first three games since we dropped down to League 1:

2011-2012 Played 3 Points 9 - Eventual Finish 3rd
2015-2016 Played 3 Points 6
2012-2013 Played 3 Points 5 - Eventual Finish 5th
2013-2014 Played 3 Points 4 - Eventual Finish 7th
2014-2015 Played 3 Points 3 - Eventual Finish 5th

You will notice that our points return from those first three games had been going down every single season. Good to get that trend reversed!

Have collected the data myself and now have easy access to it - therefore hope to be able to provide regular statistical observations during the course of the season.

Not sure who that was, but it wasn't me. I agree though - it was an excellent thread and it would be good to see it back. The more I build up a statistical database over the coming few weeks and months though, the more I will be able to chuck around a range of interesting stats (if stats can ever be classed as interesting!).

I think people forget that in 2012-13 we were unbeaten until November and top of the league at Christmas.

That season ended in disaster of course.
