Why we should respect Robson

Bryan Robson has been treated incredibly harshly by Sheffield United and this may turn out to be his last job in management.

It was always going to be difficult for Robbo because he was such a brilliant player that people expected him to be a brilliant manager.

Living up to those standards is tough but, on the whole, Robson has done well and was a success at Middlesbrough before being undermined by the appointment of Terry Venables.

People also seem to forget the job he did at West Brom. He did not deserve to be sacked when he was.

Furthermore, he took on a club that had just been relegated and lost some of its best players.

Last season they were beating Arsenal, so now fans expect them to walk away with the Championship.

But it's never as easy as that. I don't think midtable consolidation and a good cup run in the first season is a bad turn - around. You then build the following season.

What annoys me is boardroom leaks that provoke headlines like "Robson has two games to save his job".

Someone let the cat out the bag and exerted even more pressure on Robbo.

It is very difficult to play and manage under that sort of pressure.

But we should never lose sight of the fact that Robbo deserves a lot of respect for his achievements as manager and player.

They would say things like, oh that sheffield player with the short hair has played well but for such as Boro things like, well Southy was telling me about his team selection over a candle lit dinner the other night.

Problem with pundits is they don't come week in week out to watch us play, I'm sure if he'd seen the Scunny performance and realised that the team performances were getting worse(IMO) he'd have a different opinion.

Pundits like Alan Shearer etc. pay no attention to our season whatsoever and 'spoony' on 606 last night arguing with a Blade as if they know what our situation is ... They think they know it all because they are so-called 'experts' but they spend their lives talking about mr roony and mrs ronaldo, so much so they havent got a clue who our players are and how we play ... I think they should be banned from presenting their opinion about our club (and others alike) when they have no idea what they are talking about!
