Have I missed something? What's Caolan Lavery's situation?

As far as I can tell, he's not gone out on loan, he's not injured, but he hasn't been assigned a squad number either. Is he part of the proposed deal with Waghorn or something?

I thought he was very unlucky last season. He came back in when Leon got suspended and I thought he was playing really well in the game against Derby, even getting an 'assist' for the own goal and then he suffered that horrific facial injury in that game. It was right in front of where I was sat in the SS and you could hear the crack of bone. Obviously ended the season on loan at Rotherham.

Anyone know anything more?

Played at Hallam with the kids. I think that says where Wilder thinks he’s at.

Clearly not good enough in Wilder's eyes, he's trying to get him shipped out (loan or permanent ideally)

Not one of Wilder's better signings but to be fair he's been unlucky with injuries. He's still fairly young, so hopefully he can command a fee from a League One club to take him.

Lives near me, spoke to him a few times. Nice lad. Was well worth a gamble; just think he’s a victim of our fast progression as a club. As others said, he’s here until we add another striker. Suspect he’ll be off to a League One club in the loan window, with a view to perm in January/summer.

I thought he made some good contributions in our promotion season, the assist for Freeman for that incredible passing move at Swindon springs to mind. I accept he's never been prolific and his first touch can let him down on occasion. I guess we've simply moved up a level in Wilder's mind.

He does possess that one attribute that everyone claims we don't have enough of in the squad : pace!

Hope he gets something sorted.

I'm hoping he's going to get a chance, he's looked good enough whilst being nothing exceptional however given an average striker with a 1 in 4 record seems to command 3 million quid he's worth including in the match day squad unless we get a fourth goalscorer in.

I don't think he's been given a squad number has he?

Has the tricks to get into good scoring positions but his finishing is poor most of the time.

A shame as I had high hopes for him but he seems more like a League 1 striker.

Did a job in league one tbf

The guy is league 2 at best. Panics in front of goal. Not a great attribute to have when your supposed to be a striker. Seems a really nice guy in interviews , but that doesn't make you a good striker unfortunately!

If he goes now we are down to three strikers aren’t we? All injury prone and over 30.

Bit sad really, he left Wednesday and cited being forced to train with the kids as one of the reasons.

He's featured throughout pre-season with the first team so maybe Wilder wanted him to gain more playing time. I would think Lavery has been told he's backup for the first team squad at best and a loan/permanent is preferred for both parties.

Not giving him a squad number seems a bit odd though

He needs to go to Barnsley for the season and they need to send us Bradshaw. Win win win I feel lol

He was well worth signing, he contributed in L1 and for most of that season him and Sharp would've been our best pairing.

He's an interesting player, he has a lot of good attributes but not quite enough of anything to make it at Championship level.

He's not played enough football in his career. He needs to brush up on the basics such as ball retention. A full season in L1 or even L2 would do him good. But we're at a stage where we should sell him if possible.

Good luck to him. I think he'll be a good L1 striker if he can play enough games in the next season or two.

Lavery has done his bit, it's time he moved on though. I can see him doing very well for a Charlton type club.
