Amid all the drama at the Ricoh, I though he had a fairly decent performance of the bench, probably the best I've seen from him, to decent attempts that hit the post, offers a bit of pace up top, with that stat coming from Done, 2 goals in 41 or something, does Lavery deserve a chance.
Ps. I'm not a Done hater, he offers a lot but can't be having strikers with a scoring record like his
Yes but, I've been trying to tell you this for weeks and weeks now. Done isn't a striker. He isn't. Simple as! Never has been, never will be. FFS! Just imagine this for one minute, and give me an honest answer...
Imagine you were manager of Sheff Utd and your job, your livelihood, the roof over your head, the future for your family, the food on the table, depending on Done scoring goals. How many of you would be comfortable with that? Come on! How many?
I think you'd be very, very brave to gamble your future on such a possibility given that Done has only once ever scored more than 6 in a season.
I've been posting for weeks on here, that his tally of 2 goals from (what is it now, 18 games?) is piss poor and we, as Blades, whatever our differences, must NOT, and I mean, ABSOLUTELY NOT, rely on this bloke getting the goals to fire us to promotion.
But all I hear in response is, "ooh, but he runs around a lot and does a lot of work" - which I TOTALLY AGREE WITH!
But is that what you want a striker to do? Personally I'd prefer my strikers to be lazy bastards like Keith Edwards, and bang 30 goals in a season!
I was at the away game at Bradford. I thought Done was exceptional - definitely my MOTM. About the best I've ever seen him play. I posted the same on here. But look, it's really NOT about how much he runs about as a striker, it's about "end product". And he hasn't got one. He's had 1 good season in his entire career when he scored more than 6 goals.
I have been telling you this for weeks, but you needed to see that stat on your Sky TV screen tonight for it to sink it didn't you? "2 goals in 41 appearances". And we get folks posting on here that he should be the natural "strike" partner to Billy Sharp.
Go and have a look at some facts will you? and come back when the penny has finally dropped.
Done IS NOT A STRIKER. I will say it again for those hard of understanding.
I've no issue at all with him being in the side - I'd be interested to see if he can do better than that other wet rag - Lafferty - who hasn't impressed me at all down the left-hand side. But FFS! get some proper "STRIKERS" up front or we'll miss out on the big prize.
I thought Lavery was very good tonight up front btw. If it wasn't for an extra coat of paint, he'd have equalled Done's goalscoring record in just one game! He hit the post twice and made the header that allowed Billy to convert and win 3 points for us.
Go back through my posts if you want. Go back to the time we signed Lavery and you will see that I predicted he would replace the ineffective Done in attack and that we would be all the better for it.
It's here. It's happening. Time to stop defending Done just because he runs around like his arse is on fire! He was shite tonight and thank God we took him off!
