Back in the south now after our venture north with the band.

I did take the game in finally in the Banner Cross pub. Sat opposite a few blokes I knew at school at Gleadless Valley including one who joined the navy before me who I happened across in 1980 or so. So, settled nicely to watch it and ...

... he wouldn't shut the fuck up. Seriously, trying to politely glance up at the screen - missed Berge's goal ... him banging on about 'the old days' in the navy ... on, and on, and on. Fucking hell. I'd come north to escape that shit and believe me, the Royal Navy is a world of difference nowdays. Managed to catch some of the game but in between hearing him going on and digging up another charmless anecdote (the last I saw him was on the stairs of the navy genito-urinary clinic forty two year ago as I was getting some treatment for crabs ... he was on his way up to get treat for gonnohrea, and fuck me he wouldn't shut up about it) I managed to deduce that Coventry has too many answers to what we had to offer, Gordon looks still under-developed against such a strikeforce, Egan and Robinson had a fucking nightmare, the midfield were characteristically invisible and our strikers starved of chances. Fodders however played a fucking blinder ... a real 10/10 even though four went past him.

No marks out of ten as Deadbat has already done them. Onwards and upwards with Blackpool and put this behind us, eh?

Agree on Gordon perhaps not being quite ready.
I'd put Seriki in that bracket too.

This is what concerns me about "the new plan". N'Diaye isn't even getting much game time now too, although I'd expect him too in the coming months.
I actually think Hecky should have brought N'Diaye on in the 2nd half. He's good at closing down and offering a threat, felt it would have made sense to bring off one of the midfield for him within the first 10mins of the 2nd half.

I'm absolutely for academy players being given a chance but they have to be ready, how many actually currently are is another matter.

Our academy is not even a top flight academy. The Board’s suggestion that our team will be built around the academy is lunacy and if we followed it to the letter we will end up in L2. If we get one or two players good enough for the first team at any one time that will be an achievement.

It is essentially impossible to achieve even with a category 1 academy.

Indeed!

The academy does pretty well as it goes. Not to say they can't improve it.

But the purpose of the academy of course is to develop talent for the first team or to sell and make money on etc.

We seem to get a graduate capable of first team action every few years or so. Sometimes more than one at once.
Not too many clubs get this really.

I didn't get to see the game as I was in Matagorda Lanzarote. Had Sunday lunch in the Aussie beach bar, the owner is actually a Blade from Hackenthorpe and neither of us could work out how we could be so bad after being so good against Boro. All I can put it down to is injuries and tiredness taking a toll and having a bench full of kids and McBurnie. We really are scraping the barrel and running on empty just now and might do well to hang on to a play off spot.

For the first 20 minutes it was like a continuation of the Boro game with plenty of pressing and closing down. Once they scored we lost our way and seemed to run out of energy and as the game went on Egan's legs in particular appeared to be out of coordination with the rest of his body. I think it was just one tough game too many in a relatively short period of time. Having more experienced players back will hopefully stop the rot and Saturday will just be a blip which can be put behind us.

As a footnote, said 'old navy colleague' came with another one of his buddies to see us at the Red and Yellow Club that night but by then he was so completely and utterly wasted to even remember more tremendous anecdotes.

But yeah, it seemed to me we were there for the taking with the old 'ball over the top' trick, which had done us so badly last season. The first one had Jack stranded with Egan not sweeping and the second half was stuffed full of our characteristic vulnerabilities. Fodders is having a rich seam of form at the moment, thank fuck. Imagine if we had Olsen still?

It's hoped the training facilities get fixed and we see Basham and Baldock back soon, with Berge back in the game too. He was practically anonymous after his goal

I`m predicting we get to the play off final and Fodders wins it by saving all the penalties in the shoot out.

Christ, I'd like it not to go to pens and us to do a Wolves and 'turn up' on the day, beating the opposition 3-0 comprehensively.

But yeah, confidence is good in him.

Hang on, 'goalkeepers taking penalties in play off finals'.

* shits pants *

Fodders 10 - 10, 9 for me should have saved the first one and dropped the second when it hit the post and came back to him. Head and shoulders above the rest of the team but that wasn't hard as the rest were really poor.

You're losing the work ethic & commitment -

I disagree, we were shit from the off at the weekend. Most people around us were amazed when we scored and it was a matter of time before they equalised and then it was a case of how many Wes would manage to keep out.

I remember the time we beat Ipswich 7-0 then lost to Palace 5-1

The only time we played in that godawful orange away strip too, at Palace. Whereas Len Badger smacked in a 40 yarder over Laurie Sivell in the Shoreham End at the Lane, we were thumped with a fucking glorious top binner from a Palace player at Selhurst with John Hope flailing. And the pitch looked like a field of liquefied shite

Remember it clearly

3-0 down at HT and being in shock based on the magnificence of the prev weeks performance

Felt a lot like that at 5pm last Saturday

Of course when Cov played Boro a few weeks back Boro won.

Sums this league up and especially the teams from 4th to 11th. Very little between them really and all capable of a very mixed set of results between now and May.

Hopefully we get a decent return this week and then at least have 10 days to get some bodies back for the final 8 games
