Are lack of late goals for us whats going to cost us Automatic ?

Norwich & Leeds have scored loads of late goals that have earned them points this season, WBA & Bristol City also got in on the act last night, i won't mention our last Friday nights opponents.
Sky put up a table of the top 6 sides i think that have scored most goals in the last 10min of a game, I think Norwich & Leeds were top 2 with WBA and Villa in there. I bet we are more near the bottom of that league.
Is Wilder to blame he does seem negative with his substitutions alot of the time,
I have said before on other threads Wilders substitutions are not his strong point in my opinion. Taking Strikers off and bring defenders on is not going to get you many late goals, certainly not for us anyway.

Wilder is adapting to championship life still. Last season he didn't do this, he would carry on going for the win and we were applauding him for it. To usr Bristol City at home for example, he made attacking subs when we were down to 10 men. We conceded late to lose. If he had made a defensive change to tighten up, would we have lost?

Villa on Friday there are two arguments..

1. We were 3-0 up so defend the lead.
2. We were 3-0 up and playing great, why change it up?

On balance, is Wilder too gung ho with his substitutions in tight games?

That's all well and good but if you take the defensive approach, you don't go 3-0 up then defend, you go 1-0 up and defend. Friday was a freak result, you can't take anything from it from a tactics/approach point of view.

I'm sure I'm not on my own when I say I love the way he goes for it, OK, we'll lose late goals and with it points and it may ultimately cost us promotion but I'd rather watch 46 games of football like this than see us bore our way into the play-offs and have no idea how to win those games if we get there.

This to me shows a lack on concentration defensively in the last 30 minutes. If we could just stay switched on for the final third of the game - or even final 15 - we'd be so much better off.

To be honest, we normally don't need a late goal because a) we're often already winning - 3rd in the league; and b) we don't tend to throw away leads, with one obvious recent exception. By contrast, Norwich have been abysmal in first halves this season so have had to go gung-ho to get back into games (that, and they have an extremely good attack).

From memory the only times we've been pegged back late this season apart from Villa were Stoke, Preston and Millwall. Stoke was practically the last kick of the game and the other two times we went down the other end and got the late goal to win.

I'm talking specifically about games where we've gone from a winning position to a drawing one. It'd be great to get an equaliser in all the games we've been losing but that's football I guess. Every loss has been to a team in the top 11 so sometimes you have to hold your hands up and appreciate that they were good enough to keep us out. I think it's also fair to say that until this transfer window, our squad was very thin in terms of subs who could potentially change a game in an attacking sense.

Goals conceded in last 15 looks much more concerning (12) but before Friday night's fuck-up it was looking much better - not a worrying season-long trend IMO, basically just average with one mad ten minutes thrown in. In fact 7 of those 12 came in the Villa, Preston and Millwall games I mentioned above, two of which we turned round and won anyway.

One other bit of info I just noticed on that site is that we've spent less time trailing this season than any other team in the division - 331 minutes. The next closest is 413 mins.
