PeterNdlovu081;
David Hirst, Chris Morgan and Mark Crossley are all Barnsley lads.

David Seaman, Aaron Lennon, Kevin Davies, Gary Cahill and James Milner I agree but only Mark Crossley might be considered a top flight player from those you mentioned.

Other than that it appears we are struggling badly.

David Seaman started as an apprentice at Weeds, as did Milner and Lennon of course. He didn't play for Weeds though - he was shipped out and made his league debut for Peterborough.
Gary Cahil was a youth product at Villa
Mark Crossley was a youth product at Forest
Kevin Davies was released at the Lane and made his name at Chessy. Has been an excellent pro but is not an international.

So I'll give you David Seaman, Aaron Lennon and James Milner - but who else?
You could beat that by miles just by looking at Merseyside alone never mind the rest of the North West.

This tells me there are three possibilities.
1. Yorkshire people in general are shit at football compared to the rest of the country (is it too hilly? I was at school at King Teds and our home pitch was on a reight slant - and it was in the middle of nowhere).
2. Yorkshire clubs (Weeds included) are shit when it comes to talent spotting, coaching and their youth policies.
3. It's all too cosy and comfy living in Yorkshire so there's no incentive to reach the heights through football (Merseyside as a contrast).

Any more?

Probably not exhaustive, but a list of Yorkshire born players who played cricket for England. Maybe the sporting prowess was traditionally groomed and nurtured in a different sport! Certainly for my parents and grandparents generation, playing for SUFC, SWFU, LUFC was fair enough, but if you played for Yorkshire at cricket you were really somebody!

Now you are making me even more depressed. Not that I am a Cricket officianado - even though I do really liek the game - but besides Vaughn (excellent player and good commentator nowadays, even though he is from the dark side) how many of those were from Sheffield?

Appears to me that besides a couple of decent boxers (long time past) and a lass that runs about a bit in a shit sport Sheffield has no right watsoever to be anywhere near the City of Sport the council would like us to believe.

If we have no Cricketers and no other sporting sons bursting through to play the beautiful game then what the hell is going wrong?

Of the current Yorkshire first team squad, 3 are born in Sheffield. Interestingly enough, not one from Leeds!
