Why can't we get this right? Most championship clubs rely on scouting players from abroad whom will be cheaper than getting players from the English leagues, these players seem to be attacking skilled pacey types compared to our slower and shiter Tom Cannon types.

Or is it just me?

Soumare was worth hanging on to another season but Wilder won't risk it.

Identifying them doesn't seem to be the issue. Berge was good. Anel was good. Vini Souza was good. Soumare had potential. Even someone like Slimane who was perceived as a flop looks pretty decent now for Norwich.
But it feels like as soon as things go sideways the club reverts back to bringing in British players.

They was all good yet didn't we lose money on them all in the end?

Because the manager and scouts are useless. Even when we had money we never ventured abroad. Didn’t the Prince authorise Berge? Sure Anel and Souza were signed under Hecky?

Yeah I think Anel and Souza was signings from the board, Hecky was more of a coach than involved with transfers if memory serves me.

It’s not a new thing with Wilder. Wilder v1 spoke at length about wanting players from GB for a closer dressing room. It worked for Wilder v1.

Football has since moved on. In a day when over 70% of the premier league players starting games were born outside of GB you are severely limiting your prospects of buying and developing a premier league regular. You’re also fishing in the most expansive pond.

When Wilder left the first time and PA did that interview on Sky he said one of the things they clashed about was recruitment. They set up some meetings about recruitment and when they got on to discussing a new goalkeeper as we had been firmly priced out of a Dean hendeson return wilder had one name on his list and that was Ramsdale. The scouts had got a number of European goalkeepers on their lists available in the 5/6m range but wilder was adamant it was Ramsdale and Ramsdale only. They all knew we didn’t have a big budget so wanted to use it wisely.

Yeah Ramsdale has gone on to have a good career but that 13-15 million saved on a keeper could have bought another couple of outfield players we badly needed. We could’ve attempted to replace JOC for a start.

Anel had worked Jack Lester at Forest and Vini Souza was part of the Man City group.

Hecky had started developing a good relationship with city after Doyle and McAtee.

They helped us get Souza, arranged a friendly game and allowed us to use their medical facilities.

Thats up in smoke now too.

Player trading is the main factor in success of modern football. Removing 70% of your potential player market because the manager’s mates hate foreigners is a hugely stupid thing to do. Wilder has to hugely over perform in other areas of his management to make up for it. He did this first time round but can’t do it now. We need to move on as a club from Brexit only player purchasing

obviously we dont do AI....its our way

You must have missed last summer.

Sheffield United made four signings through their AI recruitment model in 2025: Jefferson Caceres, Mihail Polendakov, Ehije Ukaki and Christian Nwachukwu.

Well I heard he tried to sign Dutch midfielder Hertz Van Rental but called it off when he was told the lad played for Ajax. Wilder told his chief scout we all know Ajax is a floor cleaner and to stop taking the piss.

I got told our owners said they wanted to go dutch on the payments with Ajax and were told they were living in Never Netherlands.

Perhaps with our limited resources we don’t have an international scouting network?
What, with all the millions we have had over past years with premiership appearances, sponsorship, image, income etc. Even Hull city are investing in the foreign market with good players, they may get relegated but the saleable assets they have will cover.
