...leading the works in the Christie's sale is his 1938 work, Manchester City vs Sheffield United – a painting said to be of City's 3-2 home win against United on 22 October 1938. It is expected to fetch between £700,000 and £1m.

Thought it might interest the more affluent amongst you

I dont do cheap artwork, nothing under 10 quid for me!!!!

[HodgysBrokenThumb]

Today’s Guardian (13 July, p.9) is rather misleading, saying that the painting depicts Man City in action against Sheffield United. There is no football to be seen. Perhaps as well - we lost 3-2.

Where are the tartan blankets? Lowry aaaahhhhhhht!

[BerksBlade]

They had ticket touts in 1938!
Lowry should have used a wider canvas - could have got the half-and-half scarf seller in then...

Now I’m worried again about the first game of the season Actually, what worries me is the thought that the painting was done less than 9 years before I was born. Surely the world I was born into can’t have looked quite that old…
