Kyle Walker is completely awesome....

10%
McCabe confirmed it a couple of years ago

Ha. I believe it when I see the 10% (or whatever it is) safely in the bank.

An then of course, that money redirected as credible playing staff funding. Knowing that berk, he'll get the stadium repainted, and the car park resurfaced.

Absolutely balmy that is. Yes, his end product wasn't perfect but there was little movement in the box. When he came on Rashford seemed to playing out wide rather than down the middle and Vardy was often coming out to the left too meaning there was no target. Even Beckham would have struggled to put balls on a plate yesterday. Walker was on his own down the right and was fantastic as England's main attacking threat just as he was against Russia. The difference yesterday was that he kept going for the full 90 minutes whereas against Russia once England started to sit back his threat also waned. It will be interesting to see how he and England cope when teams come at as more as for 180 minutes now he hasnt had to work too hard defensively.
I thought the same initially when watching the game, that his end product wasn't always great and he was reluctant to cross but, as you say, a lot of the time a cross wasn't really on. The Welsh defence got back quickly and kept outnumbering us in the box. Crosses would have been bread and butter for them and would have just resulted in us cheaply surrendering possession.
That's how modern football is played; you work the ball to create openings, drag the defence around to create space for some intricate passing around and into the box.

England are like us in L1; you don't often get to counterattack as many teams will take a point in the group stages and, in the knock outs, will sit behind the ball to try to keep a clean sheet and nick a goal. It's the counterattack that gives the opportunity to cross a ball, at a point in time when the defence is running back into position. That seems to me to be the way players are told to play these days; you're either a 'lesser' side and you're organised, strong defensively and keep men behind the ball while looking to hit on the break and make the most of set pieces or you're a 'big' side where you dominate possession, play in the opponents half and look to patiently work openings.

we have a 10% sell on fee

A fee, you say?...

Fair play to the boy, after 5/6 games for us 3m was an extremely fair price, and who's to say he wasn't going to just dip and do a Jordan Slew esq move.

However, in hindsight and absolute steal for a player who looks comfortably in the worlds elite in that position. I was a little disappointed he didn't go to Man Utd the summer he won the PFA young player of the year award, but they only offered around 15m at the time which is never going to be acceptable for a club like spurs.

So pleased to see him doing so well and the comments about "he should be a sheffield united and england player" are really laughable, you can be a blade through and through but you've got to grasp any big opportunity when it comes, and obviously he has more than done so.

These comments about Kyle Walker make me laugh. Ohh isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?

De Geromalano was supposed to be a big star and we were supposed to be selling him cheap. He wanted big money or he was going elsewhere, maybe even Juventus.

Wasn't Che Adams going to be a big future England international. Many predicted we'd sell him for 2 or 3 million and really regret it.

Ohh and Jordan Slew had a massive future in the game, Going to be a PL regular and we let him go for a mere million.

I remember at the time the outcry was about Kyle Naughton. Walker had hardly played a game for us.

History shows that teenagers are prone to inconsistency and can even be 1 season wonders. Also when some get a pay rise and some fame they lose their desire and are never the same player.

Well done to Walker. I always rated Naughton higher, so what do I know.

I disagree ,Wlaker looked something different in his few appearances ,something different to what we had seen at the Lane for a long time and his pace was unbelievable. this was confirmed when he played against us for Villa. he has been very well managed in his career ,but he is a willing learner and a hard worker. Agree with Foxy he has to make the most of it while he has his pace ,but at the moment I haven't seen a better right back in the competition. the Russian one Smolnikov is very good to and made Sterling look a twat but he plays a very high line. Wales have every chance today if they play winger as the Russian back 4 have 2 ageing centre backs and the full backs are almost wingers.
Im biased because I know Kyles parents very well ,played with his Dad and his Mum was at my school.

Sitwell is right. You could see Walker was the real deal from day 1. I can't remember saying that about any other homegrown player in the 30 odd years I've been watching United.

But even if that's not right, why sell both our full backs? I will never understand why people defend that.

And we will regret selling Che Adams if it happens this close season.

As ever with our club, we sell our prized assets at the earliest opportunity, the alternative and one which given our league standing at that time was feasible, would have been to build a team around the 2 Kyles - hindsight is a winderful thing I agree, look what subsequently happened / is still ongoing?

what is more annoying though is that is wasn't hindsight.. many of us said this at the time. it was a fucking no brainer

It's a shame our manager at the time had no brains.

But our parachute payments had run out and the expensive contracts we'd awarded to a number of players hadn't.

It's a brilliant effort.

It also makes you realise that people are so damn negative.

Non-white footballer gets dressed up as white character and nobody passes comment.

In the same week:

White footballer gets dressed as black character and it's all over the news and he has to erase from his instagram.

What happened to guys having fun without everyone looking for some Negative PC undertone?

It's Christmas for goodness sake!

Is there a history of black people dressing up as white people to mock them in the worst ways?

There's a history of accusing women with long hair and cats of witchcraft and drowning them.

At some point you have to move on. In the same article about the footballer who went darker for his Christmas Do, there was a female athlete who went to a party as Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act. She also ended up apologising.

If it's mean then I get it, but the female athlete as the example, who was she hurting? Even Kick It Out understood there was no harm meant by the footballer.

PC gone mad. I've got more people wishing Happy Holidays because Merry Christmas has become offensive somehow to some.

I get where you're coming from, but there also needs to be some appreciation of the symbolism of certain acts. We don't have witch trials any more, and very few believe in witches. Minstrel shows were airing in the US into the 80's. Black footballers were getting bananas thrown at them around that time too. So racism and witches are worlds apart in a social context.

Even though it doesn't bother me personally if someone dresses as Whoopi Goldberg I'm equally confused by people acting as though why it's not obvious that dressing up as a black person for entertainment might be seen as a little unpalatable.
